Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Well I have 7/9 hatched here!! Thanks Lotsa !!

Nothing, nothing, nothing. I'm starting to lose hope. I did, however, fill up 2 big black garbage bags full of clothes from my closet thanks to much needed distraction and middle age spread. You'd think, with all the up and down the stairs to check my eggs, those clothes would fit me again??? Looks like I'm going to win the last eggs to hatch/no eggs to hatch. C'mon, eggs!!! Do something!!

I'd like to take a break from my regularly scheduled eggstravagant whining to wish you all, and yours, a very happy, prosperous, and healthy new year!!

Wow! 7 of 9, they're in a hurry!

I finally got a rooster crowing picture! Of course I didn't have the real camera, so it's from my phone..

Ignore the barn doors. They're on the Spring to-do list.

..................... but showoff . You probably have a little assembly line belt carrying the constant flow of newly hatched chicks to recovery room .

Ohhhhh, now that is something to think about! A new invention, complete with conveyor belt! You could make a fortune on something like that! Hatch .... fall out of egg onto the belt ...... on to recovery! Yea, simple!

Chick #2 just entered the world! Out of a green egg - woohoo! And I think, even though I have no experience with chick color vs adult color - but a girl can hope - that this little EE may be a splash!! I sure hope so....

8:40AM Just went out to feed and water chickens.

It's 30 degrees out there this morning, on it's way up to 49!!

It's just too darned cold...

Still without pips in the Brinsea. (21 eggs in there)

Still have four in the Hovabator without pips, out of the 21.

Many are zipping... hatched chicks are fluffing up. gotta get ready for the funeral.

Didn't sent this earlier!

1:54PM
Got home about 20 minutes ago. all but 3 in the Hovabator have hatched. 2 of Chookschicks marans and a halo Ameraucana remain and I think that they are 20+ days now and dead in their eggs, they were just incubated at too high a temp I suppose.

DS#4 made a HUGE mistake. An Icelandic chick had hatched and was fluffed up and so he OPENED the Brinsea and took it out.

I asked him if he realized he had just killed 20 chickens.... he doesn't get it.
"But dad I put the lid back on real quick..."

I tried to 'calmly explain' that the temp and humidity lowered when he simply opened the lid to the point that he most likely killed the rest of them.

I'm alone in my bedroom so I don't get upset at him. Of course I made the mistake of leaving without saying to everyone, DON'T TOUCH THE BATORS.

Out of the 21 in the bator, one is OUT, and 2 other icelandic eggs have pipped but they are large pips without a zip so I doubt they'll make it... I guess I can still have hope for tem

Sometimes I can't win for loosing.

But on the bright side, I've got 12 marans (1 more than I got last NYD hatch) 11 FBCMs and 1 Wheaten! hatched and 6 pretty w/bw Ameraucanas, 5 of those from Halo and 1 from our coop.

So I should be thankful. Just wondering if I'll actually have any hatch on NEW YEARS DAY... crazy I know.

You don't have one yet ?

My pip's just doing nothing , my voice does not do " peep " , sounds more like bullfrog imitating a chick , so guess I will get a nap ............................... it may be a longgggggggg nite .

I'm with the "nothing's happening" group. We've seen all three rock at some point in the last day, but that's it. Getting impatient and worried. This is the first time we've attempted such a thing and I sure hope the 3 out of 7 eggs shipped from across the country that finally made it to lockdown will be okay. We keep looking, but there's nothin' to see....

I wouldn't give up on the Brinsea chicks...the incubator rebounds pretty quickly. I still have no pips but definite chirping and I saw a wiggle. Of course they will all pip while I am at the hockey game tonight and after that we are going to the in laws for New Years snacks and watch the ball drop. I got to figure out how to time my camera to come on at midnight hmmmm there's got to be a way.
