Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

There is light at the end of the tunnel!!

Mahonri, I now have 7 eggs for you and the number is growing. Today I watched a Wheaten egg come right out of the pullet, which looked incredibly painful, then I placed the pullet in with the Blue Wheaten cockerel again just in case fertility may be low still. When I returned to get the egg, my was it ROUND!

I'm gonna have to warn you when you receive the eggs, candle them all and make sure you know which end is which!

My Wheatens lay rounder eggs than my Black Coppers. . . Wish my Black Coppers didn't lay such oblong, pointed eggs. . . Though it is better for hatching, it does not allow darker eggs and is not the goal of the egg shape.

Why don't they lay when you want them to? Wanted to set a new line of White Ameraucana's, Midget White Turkeys, W/BW Ameraucanas and Splash Marans.
White Am's aren't laying from the 3 breeders I tried to order from. Started collecting from mine....total 1
Midget Whites are still up in the air
W/BW Am's collected 3
Splash Marans current stalking auction.....wish there were some BC/Splash copper Marans out there...I have FBCM

Anyone have any of these so I can hatch more than a few eggs?

OK, we're in... because I'm a glutton for punishment. I told the kids we'd try some "cheap" (or cheep) generic peeps before I spend the money on BCM eggs my son wants. I'll have to get our box made quickly, won't I? I'll try to get some "local" (because we aren't near farmland) eggs and see if they will take our chicks, as we can't keep what we hatch

My coop is just big enough for the 2 chickens we have right now, and with a possible move in our future...

And I had just convinced myself that I should wait to do my first hatch until Spring... and now you've gone and put a whole new argument in my head that I haven't debunked yet.

sorry

Glad I could help. Just paying it forward because I've had lots of wonderful folks help me over the years.

I think we are each going by our own time zone, but am not 100% sure on that. Mahonri will have to respond, to be sure.

That's correct. take a pic of the chick with BYC page on your computer with the time showing at the bottom...
Each in our own time zone

I'll have to look for a web page that is set to the 'atomic' clock and I suppose each of us could use that.
