Ok I still have 15 eggs that I am waiting on. I double checked a couple and saw movement. My temps were low on one side of the Bator. Its homemade and I am in the process of rethinking my design. Came home from work and the temp was at 75 my stupid light bulb blew out. I had one more chick hatched and it was peeping up a storm. So I now have 2 hatched from my new years hatch but the silkies are taking their sweet time.

I want an emu but think I would get kicked out by my fiance or my dad who lives next door. Every time I get more eggs or chicks they look at each other and shake their heads.

If anyone's still awake, we have a chick. I'm hoping it'll survive. I took it mostly out of the shell, no real bleeding, just blood on the membrane. It's peeping now and then, mostly sleeping. If you can see, it has a boil-like bump that could be anatomically correct, for all I know! Do I take it all the way out or let it get the rest of the way out? The membrane isn't sticking to it.

The bump looks a lot like a picture on here previously. Someone said their chick had a bump like that. Appears to be on the shoulder, but the little one is still so folded onto itself and not fluffed that I can't really tell. I'm not touching it, that's for sure! I don't think it's yolk. It didn't appear to be in distress beyond the initial wrapping. Once I got it's head clear and the top of it's shoulder, it mostly just tumbled into my hand.

Thanks. I sure hope this little one makes it! It's been a fighter so far! And I hope I did the right thing. I don't think I can intervene like this again. It's just too hard second-guessing myself. Man, I'm tired! Maybe that's most of my problem. Two-year-old sleeping without me and chick breathing, at least. I need to go to bed!!

I am the one that had the picture of the bump on the shoulder! By the way ... it is gone now!

Best bet is to just leave the chick alone. Leave it in the incubator and check it in the morning.

It's squirmed out of it's shell and I see the umbilical is still attached. No yolk remaining. Will it detach on it's own??

Yes, it should fine. If you see no yolk .... like a bubble at the rear of the chick .... it should be just fine! Yes, it will detach on its own.
