:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:weee:weee:weee:ya:ya:ya!!! After watching these eggs constantly, DS comes home from school, looks down, and sees the chick pip. OMG, I might actually get a baby. Wahooooooooooooo!!! Of course this happened! I just packed up junk in the box I was going to use as a brooder. I should have done that days ago!

Don't know if any of you will find this interesting but -
My husband is a great believer in mothers and a great disbeliever in doing things in an unnatural way (despises my incubator). He insisted the new hatchlings needed a mother. OF course we don't have a hen that wants to mother our new chicks don'tcha know. His idea - a pidgeon. I told him right off it would never work, foolish idea if I ever heard one, but being right as he always is - he insisted.
While the pidgeon may or may not enjoy the situation (it sits impassively with chicks pushing under it), the chicks are deliriously happy. There is very little space under a pidgeon as you may have guessed. So the chicks push and struggle to see who gets to be under "mama". It seems to be working beautifully.

Rathbone That reminds me of my granddaughters silkie who hatch a jersey giant egg. That chick was so big compared to its mother that it finally learned to squat on top of her but he stayed with her even after he got taller than her at 2 months old. She would call this enormous chick over to eat and he would come arunnin

Thank you! Unfortunately, the kids are now so wound up they are bouncing off the walls!!!!!!! Poor chick is going to hide in there forever.
