Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Wolftracks I am so sorry about your doggie....could she have been poisoned? By plant, chemical or mean person? Poor girl I will pray for her to heal up and go on to be dressed up and receive many Diva treatments from your daughter.

I tried several times over the past several weeks and keep getting that message hmmmmm glitchy or catching you at the perfect moment. LOL I will send you eggs once they are laying again and it is a bit warmer.

I'm really sorry. My father has lots of dogs and one of them (my favorite) was torn all the way down her underside by apparently trying to jump a barbed wire fence. He got a call from a nearby neighbor asking if he wanted the guy to put her down for him. He got her stitched up at a vet he didn't frequent because of his lousy bedside manner and brought her home to nurse. Took her back to their regular vet a couple days later and had her sewn up properly. She's bouncing around still today.

I sure hope your dog does the same.

With spraddle leg, once you get it secured... I just leave it be. Mine have eventually figured out how to stand up and use their feet within a day or two. You may have to help it out some here and there, by holding it up just high enough that it can stand on it's on.. Lift it just enough, so that it has to use it's feet to stand. Do that a few times a day for a little while. It will learn. As for the outside toes being folded under his feet, I do not know. I am not familiar with that issue. Can you post a pic??

1997 Put your spradle leg in a coffee cup with the bandades on it will help him to stand up erect and get strength in his legs. You can also try to cut a small square of cardboard and tape his foot to it straighten out his toes then tape it in place You have to do this right away for it to work. Once he is in the cup take him out to eat and drink until hes strong enough to get out himself. Being in the cup you can ut him in the brooder and the others can not trample him.

I will try to post a pic, but my internet connection usually wont let me. It's almost like he's trying to hold something. What is the best kind of bedding for him to be on with his legs? I have the chicks on shavings right now, but My incubator is still on so I thought about putting him back in there so the others wont pick on him. Any thoughts?

I'm out for the die hard award. The last 3 eggs are not doing anything. Still have 6 eggs in there that were set a couple days late that are peeping at me with a black copper maran egg pipped. The other 5 are 3 Ameraucanas, a silkied cochin, and a white silkie. Really hope they hatch as they're the only survivers from some post-office shake-n-bake eggs.

I have my silkies on paper towels for the first couple of days... It's easier for them to grip and not let their feet slide out from under them.. Yes, you do have to change it daily. But it is worth it to have them be able to get a good grip with their little feetsies...
