Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

The Brinsea spot check was a great investment for me in peace of mind. Every time I put it through the hole in the 1588 and down to egg level I wait for a couple minutes and it always stablizes on 99.5... same thing in the Brinsea... even though it says it's at 99.4, it's really at 99.5.

I'm having faith in the panel on the Brinsea that says it's at 36% humidity. I suppose after I candle if I have more room I can put a hygrometer in there to compare.

And though I don't want to loose any, I'm facing facts that there are going to be scrambled eggs and quitters. So I imagine I probably won't have any more stacked eggs after day 8.

I have a Genesis 1588 and have been adding water through the vent hole with an eye dropper. I've recently contacted the seller cuz it' makes a funny "revving" noise. Mostly when I add water. It's been fine up til now. Hatches have been acceptable. I've only had it since Feb 2010. This will be my fourth or fifth hatch.

The temp has been in the 99.5 range. Last hatch it was over 100.0 but still got a nice hatch. 20/25. Humidity fluctuates. Think I should add the vent plug? I haven't before . Would that stabilize the humidity?

The most expensive chickens in the history of crazy.

Splash Silkied Ameraucanas... Amazing.

Do a search for "What's wrong with their feathers?"

Long, interesting thread.

Seriously what are they. I haven't had sanity since I got married, 34 years ago.

One day I will get one of those SSAmeracaunas. But not today. Until then, I gotta make sure I do some regular kissing-up

What kind of Incubator do you have? I have a Genesis 1588 and have been adding water through the vent hole with an eye dropper. I have a 1588 as well.
The blue tube goes through the OPEN hole down through the turner, through the metal mess and into one of the large water trays at the bottom.
Because I stack at the beginning, I have to open the bator three times a day to move the eggs that are stacked. They don't move like the ones in the turners... I always loose some humidity so I heat a little distilled water and put it in that tube with a sterilized Afrin bottle. Works like a charm to get the humidity back around 35%.

If you are adding water any other way through a 'vent hole', you could be ruining your bator or eggs or both.
