Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

So I just went in to check on the brinsea. Took out the two Icelandics that had hatched and put them into recovery. One is a total blondie, the other black...(came out of the large egg) Also, a liltte w/bw Ameraucana that came out of a small first time laid egg of one of my w/bw ameraucana pullets.

The MillefluerCochin had just popped its top and there are two more Icelandics that are pipped.

after experimenting with mine, i found the only thing it will read is humidity outside the bator. could never get it to read inside bator humidity. right now mine reads low....but two inside say 63% and 66%. which would be about right

Happy New Year, everyone!
Just finished catching up. Congrats, Mahonri!!!!!

Woke up with cat asleep across my iPad, which was on top of the lap blanket, with two doxies under it. Toasty warm, I am!

Rain woke me up. Still no pips. Cayugas are billing the wall below the window nearest my recliner - they are reacting to the increased activity in the house (potty break, turning on guest room light to check for pips, etc.)

Although I wasn't awake for the change of decade, I really did enjoy experiencing this whole thing with y'all. And I'll be here, off and on, whilst more folks check in with news of new chick.

Plus I gotta see those pix, too!

A BLRW finally hatched... but she's a hot mess. All sticky and pieces of shell stuck to her. Then she face planted inside another shell and can't get out.

Lets all up in the air, flailing. I'm resisting the urge to go in.

I have seven out, one non pip, 6 pips and one I tried to help that may turn out badly. We shall see. It had been pipped with a completely open hole x 24h and was giving the 'distress' peep. I opened the shell JUST a tiny bit and saw blood and stopped. I felt horrible! I've helped out before but this one wasn't 'baked' yet.

It's still alive and wrapped in a damp paper towel. On the good side, my seven that are out look fabulous. No idea what they are yet until I can remove the shells and see what all hatched. I know there's two BLRW and one frizzled cochin (I assume that's the one with the feathered legs) but not sure on the others yet.

Thankfully my humidity looks to be spot on - no chicks are coming out drenched or sticky. The one I tried to help since I could see white membrane wasn't shrink wrapped at all, just running behind.

I think I am going to win for latest hatch! It's 9 am and I have one wet chick (white ameraucana, I think) and one olive egger pip.

I think I am going to order the brinsea spot check because I have a funny feeling my bator is running a tad low.

Shoot, Ive still got 12 eggs in the Brinsea that havent hatched, and most just pipped. I think the latest hatch is still going to be a day or two away.

I found out my Brinsea Oct. 20 was running low when I used the Brinsea spot check after lockdown... 98.8 at egg level... that's why they are all spread out and taking so much time I suppose.

I'm about to go in there and start listening to eggs and put a pinhole in the top of each
