Thank you! I am in love with my NNs. The chicks are so incredibly cute. They remind me of little ostriches.

Funny thing is they seem to have no problem with the cold - they can tuck their necks into their body pretty well. I also have a very well insulated coop up here - so they're protected when they need to be. Another thing that I find completely odd is my chickens that aren't supposed to be "cold hardy" are much more cold hardy than my girls who are supposed to be cold hardy. I cannot get my dark brahma out of the coop when it's chilly or snowy but my white leghorns and my banty are butt deep in snow some dayss and don't seem to care.

Looks like yours just want extra time in the shell too.

Anybody????????

There was a post way back where somewhere here that talked about humdity. And yes they can drown, according to what the post said. I would think 80% is too high. Just my opinion. I'm at 55-58ish.

We run our humidity around 55%-we do use a home made incubator and that seems to work very well for us. I know the chicks have to switch over from liquid breathing to airbreathing and sometimes that process doesn't happen right and the chick drowns in the shell. Hopefully someone else will have more information for you.

It's a little yeller chick. Kinda scrawny, compared to most chicks I've hatched. Larger than a bantam breed chick. (Duh.) The BR is chubby, compared to it.

Got a picture or two, will upload and post tomorrow from laptop at Starbucks.

*giggling like a loon*

I'm sorry, I wish I could help you. Honestly the chicks that die at the end, who look perfect but just never pip, baffle me.

I don't go so high in my humidity at the end, I try to say in the 70's for lockdown because that's what works for me.

I'd still give your remaining eggs a few more days, just in case?

PS I like the wiggle test before pipping them
