Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Ear infection need antibiotics. Croup can be relieved by turning on your shower full blast on hot and letting the bathroom fill with steam. Sit on the toilet with her, rocking, have some music, for about 30 minutes.

I agree with Debi. My kids both got ear infections constantly and we got their adenoids removed to take away the jumping-off point for their germs- they both snored like mad, too. Neither of them has had an ear infection since, and they're teens now.

Can you ditch milk products until she's done with this? They thicken the mucus and make it harder to drain everything. Also, giving her probiotic supplements may help a lot- we'd open capsules and sprinkle them over a spoonful of applesauce to get our kids to take them, but I think you can get liquid versions now. Many times that will help clear up stuff, plus help her recover from the antibiotics faster.

Of course, you know chicken soup helps, right? Scientifically proven to decrease swelling in mucus membranes and help fight illness and dehydration!!

Albuterol could help the croup, helps with the breathing. It's a persciption. Opens the airways, it's the same stuff that's in inhalers. Youngest DD gets respitory infections so often we had a nebulizer perscribed for at home breathing treatments.

I've got 2 more out for a total of 10 , 3 pipped , 1 zipping . Temps plummeted when I removed the 8 , but they've been from over 102 down to 86.0 degrees over the past 3 days ; I guess they've gotten used to fluctuating temperatures

.

I was very tired coming home tonight , only slept 5 hrs over the last three days . I saw those new chicks hatching , and woke right up

, but I'm sure looking forward to getting the bator stable again and getting an entire night's sleep !

Sorry I was unable to be here much for the last day and a half , I know several people suffered through bad hatches and no hatches at all ; my heart goes out for you .

And thank you to those who offered support for my own trials ! I sure enjoyed being a part of this group and hatching a few chicks ........................... but I kinda hope my next hatch goes a little smoother

I'm going to call the doctor again tomorrow. She could have a yeast infection from the antibiotics (hadn't thought of that before!), though there's just the pain without the rash. And maybe something to help her breathing, like a nebulizer. She's really have a tough time of it!

I've got one more egg left to start hatching... it's peeping when I knock on it.

I intervened in 3 eggs and 2 have already finished hatching, the 3rd was too bloody so I put it back in on the half shell and covered in a wet washcloth. Hope it's ok. It had been pipped for over 24 hours and I was starting to get shrink wrapped chicks (badly) so I took it to the steamy bathroom and tried to chip some shell away.

Out of 21 eggs I put into lockdown only 1 was bad.

Ive got 18 chicks! Holy moly. Chicken math strikes again.

They perscrib liquid albeuterol to young children for breathing problems.

Can anyone tell me why a chick from 2 pure white ameraucana parents would hatch out grey? They parents come from really good stock.
