I know how you feel. This whole weekend has been such an emotional roller coaster. On Friday, everyone is getting pips, peeps, zips wiggles and I get nothing. Saturday, everyone else is finishing up their hatches and I get two pips in the evening. Yesterday wound up with three chicks (had to help one out) and finally one pip on one of the lav orp eggs. This morning I have one lav orp chick and two more lav orp eggs peeping but not pipping. I have gone back and forth from their all dead, to half of them are dead to might wind up with six chicks. Whew, I don't think I can take this again too soon. I have learned so much from doing this though!

I see a lot of people had hatches last night or today , congrats ! TBH I skimmed every other page to catch up LOL , buy did catch that Rathbone got her Light Sussex , I'm happy for you .

I had 15 of 17 viables [ 4 going to lockdown were clears as I suspected ] hatch after all the trouble here NYE . One had to be culled as it was not right . I wish now that I had given my last two eggs another day ; my inexperience caused me not to even consider the last two might simply need more time . They had never pipped , so I pulled the plug . I got to thinking as I read how many still had eggs hatching , and an eggopsy showed two perfectly formed chicks that had yet to pip internally . While they might have died earlier , I have a feeling that they were alive till I pulled the plug . Lesson learned .

I cracked a fresh egg from my breeding pen last night , and it was fertile . But then I realized they had been exposed to another cockeral from Dec 10 to Dec 18 ; its too soon to figure they're clean yet . Plus the pullets have cut back drasticly on egg production , Guess I better not get too excited about fireing up the bator .

Thanks. She seems to be doing okay. I'm going to hope it's just newborn-itis and she gets her footing soon. Well, HOPEFULLY it's a SHE. We can't keep roosters.

Congrats on your new baby.

Thanks!

We're happy she's here and still in disbelief she made it this far. Wow. The egg was a small one (I got some eggs from a local woman yesterday and they are 2-3 times the size of this one's egg!). And she's a tiny little one. Fits perfectly into my 2-year-old's hand. Starting to get up on her legs. I put a feather duster in there and she likes it a bit. Mostly she just wants to be inside cupped hands. That's the only time she's quiet.

A third TJs egg is hatching! It must have zipped low, because its legs are out and the top half of the shell is still sitting on the head and shoulders of the now resting hatchling. The second one is scooting around, wobbily, in the 'bator.
