someone, somewhere in the last 4356098 pages asked about a lone chick. I had a lone chick who didn't like the feather duster. She appreciated a stuffed animal. However her FAVORITE thing was a hot water bottle that I'd fill up and put the bottom 1/3rd of it under the heat lamp so it stayed warm. She'd pile on top of it and sleep. And poop. Oh goodness, the poop. Then the heat lamp dried the poop. Did I mention the poop? But it was worth it.

Congrats on all the late hatches!

It's baby poop.. Don't worry, they all do that... It's normal.

And sometimes it's even... foamy. And loud.

Alllll normal.

And have I mentioned how horrible baked poop on a hot water bottle is to clean?

Wouldn't it be sort of difficult to clean the baked poop off of the bottle? Seems like I had heard somewhere, that it might be?

Thanks. Forgot to mention not to fill the bottle all the way up and to squeeze the excess air out before closing the bottle so it lays flat for them. I didn't cover it with an old pillowcase or anything because I didn't want the chick (who had a bad leg) to get tangled up in it. In fact, she liked it so much I bought another one to put in the regular brooder for the healthy chicks. Now if I can just remember where I put them for "safekeeping" I could use it for my new hatchlings.

Seriously horrible. You should have seen the one that had 30 chicks piled on it. I only had time to clean it twice a day and it was really no longer red at the end of its shift. I had to soak it in my kitchen sink in hot water for about 10 minutes AND THEN use a scrub brush on it.

But they loved it.
