Find the nearest feed store that has chicks or a BYC member that has chicks and get it a companion?.

your way. Sorry I didn't say so before, I didn't have a chance to catch up on the thread before I posted and had to go tend the animals.
In the hour and a half my third lav orp egg has zipped about 3/4 way around. He/she is finally in a hurry to see the world. Goochgirl so glad you have a pip!!

If you have any other eggs still in the bator don't give up on them either! In fact I might be out of the die hard contest since it looks like yours will hatch after mine! Good luck!

I've decided I can't keep up. I'm away for a few hours and I'm behind 150 posts! YIKES!

Who had the last chick hatch that was set on 12/11?

Who hasn't given up yet?

We should be at the end of the die hard now....

If you've had a chick come out of the shell in the last 12 hours and it's alive, let us know again, now....

Put a box halfway on a heating pad on medium, if you can find one without an automatic cutoff. check with thermometer under/next to feather duster. Turn off the light.

It's baby poop.. Don't worry, they all do that... It's normal.

!(*&)(#!# This is like bringing home a newborn baby! Only then in my 40+ years did I start talking about POOP!

ETA - this might not even be my last egg to hatch. I still have one more lav orp egg that looked fully developed this morning just no internal pip. I can't check it right now though because of the zipping going on

That was me!

I put a feather duster in and my 4-year-old donated a stuffed animal. I'll try to find a mirror, but we just don't want more chicks right now. We're hoping to hatch some more, but my husband is starting to get antsy when I talk about hatching more eggs. He looks at his stellar 8-10 capacity chicken coop (believe me, it's stellar! Pics when he's done -- this man has put WORK in to this thing!) and back at how many eggs I plan on setting next time and back at how many chickens we have (6 8-week-olds, but the neighbors are supposed to take 2 or 3 of them!), and gets a really worried look on his face.

This little one really, though, only calms when she's held balled up inside two cupped hands -- mine, preferably. JUST like my two kids wanted to be swaddled for about a month, and the way this chick was FOLDED into that little egg (I suspect it was a pullet egg), I can imagine she likes being folded up!

ETA: Aren't you glad you won the GFM, so you have more storage space for pictures now? ! ! !

Yes indeed!
