Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Gah! and now it's back up to 100.1

I swear, I'm NOT TOUCHING IT!

I suppose as long as it stays between 98.5 and 101 it should be OK, RIGHT????!!!

I figure if it stays (on my three thermometers) between 98 and 103 for an average of 101ish that is really good.

I think when our dog is playing she jostles the temp. even though I know I have it locked in place. Silly healer!

Yep. That should be fine. I need to get a water weasel and stick my Brinsea one temp probe in there. That will give me a better reading of what the egg temp is so I can quit stressing over the bator temps. Sound like that might work for ya as well.

Life is full of surprises.

Last week I was fat and happy... this week I'm burnt and ???, (grumpy... insert expletive here ___________)

Won't be going to Church tomorrow as my DW is going early and she is the only one who can put my dressings on.
Oh well. Guess I'll spend tomorrow with our hatch a long crew.

I know I live in the ghetto because I just heard gun shots coming from the south and a ghetto bird has been flying over head. Guess I'll stay inside tonight.

The wind certainly is blowing hard... and I had the pool really cleaned up... it will be full of leaves in the morning.

Aren't we suppose to take pics of the eggs that are set and post them somewhere? I got pics of the chicken eggs in the bators but the quail eggs aren't to be set yet so not all my eggs are set. But I know how many i'll have total.

If you are gunning for the best hatch rate contest, you take pics of those you set today (post them on the thread and write the post # down so you can refer to it later) and then take pics of those you set soon with the number of eggs in each (post that too) and they'll match what you will report in the participant form that you will fill out once the last eggs are set....

makes sense?

My temp is right but my humidity is up to 60%. How do I lower this??

I always leave the plugs out of my bator. And I only fill one water well at a time until lockdown. the I fill more of them to get the humidity up a bit higher.

Help! I can't stop looking at this thread!!! agggghhhh. my house is a mess, my kids are sick...i'm sick..and can't stop following this thread. And on top of it, I can't stop looking at my eggs. Still working on the bators.

I'm failing to see the problem

Ummm...which thread could possibly be more active than this???

OK, help with the incubator...turns out my son did more damage than I thought, I found that both doors on it don't shut properly and are letting out a lot of air. I get the temps in the bator up to 95, but no more and I'm sure its the leaking...not sure how to fix it. Found a hovabator 1602 on ebay that comes with turner for $69. My hubby would kill me but he's deployed and what happens in chickie land, stays in chickie land. (he also assumes im only hatching a few from the emails i've sent) Soooo...do I lose faith in myself and go ahead and order it (be here mon) or do I continue and try to fix this bator that I worked so hard on.

I know we've asked before but is there any way you can post a picture of the bator? It would be helpful to see what we are working with.

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes for my daughter. We had more testing today and should know something for certain by the middle of next week.I keep trying to rustle up some Faith and recognize that this is beyond my control. We'll deal with whatever comes our way as best we can.

Why oh why did I have to stumble upon the fact that Friesian chickens are So cool... and in my size range... and great layers... and not able to be found anywhere in the US. I've looked everywhere I think. Now I'm on a mission to find some Friesians. Anyone know why no one has imported a flock to the US yet? If they did why they aren't advertising eggs so I can satisfy this incredible urge to buy some. *sigh* To think I just talked hubby into Seramas... he might kill me yet.

Also... during this whole searching frenzy I went on I was wondering if it is possible to ship eggs over seas. Will they allow it? Will the eggs make it? Will it cost an arm and a leg? lol

I will not Google these, I will not Google these, I will not Google these...

There are Friesan chickens??? That is not something I needed to know. Do they have feathers on their legs, just like the horses??
I have enough breeds, I have enough breeds, I have eno

Where's Google

Yeah makes sense. I filled out a form that asked what I was setting and how many and my guess on how many you will hatch, etc. Is that the form your speaking of? I posted how many eggs total i'll have after the quail are set. I already know how many i'll set.

I had another question I asked yesterday or sometime. I've lost track but we're working on a cabinet bator and i'd like to transfer the turners from the styrofoam bators to the cabinet when it's done and tested. Is it allowed to move the eggs? I don't want to break any rules.

I have plenty more if you want some. Come on over and grab a few more! I have been getting 6 - 8 dozen eggs a day.
How do you even collect that many. you must have a 55 gallon drum sized egg basket.

I've been up since 330. Yawn. :)

I slept more than a couple hours for the first time in months. Slept clear till 9:30. Now I'm still up at midnight... but starting to get sleepy.

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!

Last night I told DW I was having chest pains. She rolled her eyes and said, "It's just the hatch!"

that made me giggle out loud.

Mahonri, so sorry to hear that the silvadene is not helping with the pain. It seemed to soothe mine when I used it but I didn't have burns in areas that would be covered by clothes and such.

Kathy if you were offering some of those gorgeous project bird eggs and you were closer I would be there in a heart beat. I had to "admit" to DH last night (did I mention he is out of town?

) that I got some Konza eggs from Renee. On the positive side, he likes the idea of roos that are ready for butchering in 14 to 16 weeks. Of course he doesn't know about the second bator yet.

And we're NOT tellin

I LOVE the variety of the F2s. I am hoping to continue with a couple other projects with the Buff Barred and the Buff Columbian from them.

Those are gorgeous birds you're making.

Great!! A good start to the first day.

And now it's the next day and I'm still 40 pages behind. See ya in the morning.
