Thats awesome. And thats a great hatch rate with a homemade one. I wanted to make one but I don't have any parts laying around to do it so I would have way more than $35 to build it. I have a small fridge but it still works so I may get yelled at if I tear it apart. lol

Yes it is and only cost me a little less than $35 to build. maintains temp and my hatch rates have been 85% to 90% Here are a couple pics from earlier this afternoon

Jesshan8 and debs_flock, would your like your incubator and pedigree box (respectively) entered into the invention contest? Let me know.

BTW, I probably will not be updating the contest page until tonight, so don't stress, people. I have a day of yard work ahead of me.

I'm back. Good grief... now I'm scared my bator is going to go wild on me. Do you think DW would notice if I bought a NEW 1588 with the digital thermostat and switched it out?

Problem is, they are back ordered. Other problem is, I can't even have it delivered to the office... cuz she's working there now!
It sounds like you have it in hand. Not to be a bad influence, but they are in-stock (and more $$$) here. (There's a coupon code for $10 off which makes it a little easier to swallow.) I didn't really need one, but...

I don't want to chunk some that were good and I just didn't know it.... then I don't want to keep some that are bad because I didn't want to throw out possibly good eggs.

I was looking and saw one that didn't look good at all, thought I saw a blood ring... set it down to look at another and couldn't find it again... oh I wish I knew what I was looking at for sure lol. I don't know what I'm going to do with the regular sized eggs... can't see anything they are so dark/thick.
Do not throw anything out yet. It's really too early. I've been candling two of my Thursday-night-set eggs to take pictures, but I would never make a decision so early.

Don't toss anything until day 7 at least. Even then, I note which are not developing, toss outright clears, and leave the rest until day 14 just in case.

I am so excited about this hatch! This will be my 2nd hatch and the 1st time I used my own eggs! I can't wait to candle next weekend! I am nervous that I have to travel this week for a couple of days and will have to rely on my DH to check the incubator for me.

And without the poster.

LOL...this is awesome.

ok! so here st our house we set 18 eggs this morning (a little late, i know, but our postman messed up the deliver and we had to let th
em set over night) and now we cant stop staring at them. I have never hatched before, and i am so anxious!

So.....now i was just wondering......WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO DO FOR THE NEXT 3 WEEKS?!

Candling already?!? I thought I was the only crazy one that cant keep my hands off the eggs. lol
I usually do day 5, maybe 7, and 14 - that's it - but this time I wanted to take a picture of each day just for fun. So, I put in a few light-colored eggs from my flock just for this purpose. I'm not candling any of the "real" eggs (

) because I don't want to disturb them or get any oil from my paws on them (although I always wash my hands first!

Anna - why not grab your camera and go out and try for some pics to enter into the contests? Then you can work on your egg art for that contest. If you have any ingenious chicken designs, take pics of those, as well. Then if you're still anxious, let me know, I got sumptin for ya'...........
