Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Whoa! I hurriedly checked only four Icelandic eggs and three are showing development AND movement, while one more had development but didn't show movement at the time I candled. There are 15 Icelandic eggs in that incubator (along with other eggs I did not check at all).

I've candled my results are:
15 of 17 Welsh Harlequins good
14 of 16 Acona Ducks good
0 of 3 Palm Turkeys good.

My pond is a marsh, no snow or rain to fill it. DW says not to worry only 8 will hatch.

Yes, Boss. On my way now....................
I fear disappointment. I believe at least one pen of Barred Rocks (that will be about 50 eggs) will all be clears. That dumb boy doesn't like the girls I chose for him.

Well, I guess I'm gonna switch out roosters in that pen tomorrow. I do have a back up that I like, but I really wanted this guy to perform. (I want his tail angle!) Stupid boy.

How long do you usually give a rooster and hens to get to know each other and like each other before you decide that he's just not going to get the job done?

I recently had an issue with two hens not liking the rooster. I had time constraints and only had about two weeks (can't remember now) for them to be together. I never did see him mating with them. Those girls laid few eggs while he was in there with them and the eggs are only on about day 3 in the incubator, so I still don't know if he managed to fertilize. I had them out on range, too, for a while hoping that maybe it was only a space issue. I think in time, they would have been fine together, but I just didn't have the time.

Well, I think this is just an odd case, really. See, when I was making my project F1s I used one particular rooster. Several months later I decided to use another one, for a little diversity and out of curiosity. That is this boy (Barred Rock). He did great with those New Hampshires he was with, though I did wonder (because I never did see him mate them). Anyway, he has always preferred to hang out with the New Hampshires since then. When I do free range different breeds at the same time, they all generally stay with their own pen of mates. Not this one though. He heads right for the New Hampshires, and always has. If I let his pen out, I can not let out the New Hampshires. He will then just hang around their pens, pacing around them. It is weird..........

Somone wasn't doing his job.

I wouldn't submit a baby pic of a human baby for the contest. I'd also never vote for one. Not because I don't like them, but who could really pic one human baby over another. I'm having fun seeing all of them though. What a bunch of cuties.

That being said I'm posting one of my very favorite human baby pics. I've always loved it.

Finally caught up. Where's the wiping the sweat off the brow smilie?

Lost track of almost everything I read since there was 300+ post since I had been here.

Just wanted to say that puppy is best when you just singe off the hair and cook in a pit. Pony too. I didn't realize the time I had it the the names really meant what they said. Horse was a little salty, but the dog was really good. Not as good after I found out and it came back up.

Never had moose, but I'd love some elk right now. I love venison too, but I don't like the way most people cook it. a nice think buffalo steak. Better than beef, leaner and better for you.

Rattle snake anyone? Yum

I used to cook rabbit years ago at my job. It smelled great but I couldn't eat it. Now days I would. My Lionheads better start producing soon, or they may become a small snack.

Once, when my oldest DD was 4 years old, we were in Macy's and she stopped to look at the fur coats. She reached up and stroked the arm of one of the fur coats. "Oooh Mommy! These feel like bunny rabbits!" "Awww" said an elderly woman standing with a friend nearby.

"Are these coats made from bunnies, Momma?" "Yes", I replied. This got more adoring looks and murmers from the 2 elderly ladies but made me a bit nervous since I never knew what my adorable, sweet looking little four year old might say. "Did they have to kill the bunnies to make these coats Momma?" "Yes", I answered, trying to gently pull her away from the coats (this provoked sympathetic looks from the ladies). Then those sympathetic looks quickly turned to horror as my DD said loudly, "Mmmmmm, wish I had the meat"!!!

I've never tried rattlesnake but I want to. I've heard it is delicious!!! Even better than Alligator which I love.

Me too. I had a power outage today though. Have no idea how long it was off so I didn't want to cool down the eggs again. Temps were fine by the time I got home but the clock, microwave and stove blinking tells me there was a power outage. I'll try to candle tomorrow evening when I get home.

Awwwwwww!!! That pic is precious!!! I am loving all of the baby pics! Keep 'em coming! I do agree that it would be impossible to choose one over another though if we had to vote on them. To me they are all precious beings! I've rarely ever seen a baby that doen't make me just melt into a huge gloppy puddle of gooey sweetness. However only babies have this effect on me. Grown men or half grown children acting like babies is NOT the same thing!

OMG! We even have the same kids!
