Is it bugger or booger? I have used both, because I don't know!

Well, SCG, you are a breeder of noble repute. Hats off to you!

A couple of years ago some old timer breeder

online somewhere, I can't remember where, was going on about how we haven't completed our job of incubating until we have cracked open and checked the non-hatchers. Plus we were supposed to record the information by noting early, mid, or late death

in our hatch record. It totally made me ill.

And I couldn't figure out how to open an unhatched, but fully incubated, egg and then use my filthy hands to hold the pen and notebook. It was a mess. So I quit that really quickly and decided to be totally irresponsible when it came to that aspect of incubating.

If I'm unsure what's inside (stinky, gooey, explody mess) I put it inside a ziploc bag, seal it and then whack it with something like a knife or a small hammer and then slide the contents out into a the bag. Therefore, no mess, no smell. If it's made it to lockdown and looks like there's a chick in it, I just open it without the bag.

... and I'm in the medical profession... can't really gross me out. My mom almost died though when I brought home a sheep brain, a cow eye and a pig heart for my first anatomy course. She made me keep them outside on the porch.

SCG, is the little guy with the eggshell stuck to his face getting warmed up and fluffed up? What a rotten day.

S/he was a shrink wrapped chick that I had to "birth" from the egg. It's warmed but probably won't fluff up for 24 to 48 hours or so cause of the nasty glue like stuff from the membrane.
