I was just outside looking at my F2s (Project Delaware). I kept some that are not part of the project, cuz I thought they might turn out to be pretty. Guess what...... all the buff colored chicks ended up being females (buff and buff barred)! I hatched 200 chicks, and got only 4 (can use only 3 though) Delaware pullets to use for the F3 mating. Yellow chicks hatched were project keepers, but I kept the buff, too. Gave away about 150 of the nonkeepers (black and barred).

I might be able to bring you a couple of chicks when I meet you. How serious are you? (picture me with wiggling eyebrows and rubbing my hands together mischievously)

Yes, I am serious!

I was thinking, too. I could pen my F1s if someone wants some eggs from them. The F2s result in what I pictured and:

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, Serif][FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, Serif]Barred;Black;Delaware;Split gold/silver males;Buff Columbian; Barred Buff Columbian & Silver Columbian (the last will be pullets)
in the ratios 18:6:3:2:1:1:1

You got it. I'll bring you some Wellie chicks.

I need some of those lovely things you're making- do pen the F1s so I can hatch a couple. I'll have to work the yellow skin out, but I have a perfect project to use them on! How quickly do they grow? You are the same evil genius at heart as I am...we should pool our genetics and create the most stunning and personable PERFECT CHICKEN!!! Then we could work backward and reverse engineer...muwhahahahahaha!!!

Sorry. The muscle relaxants have gotten to me...but at least I'm not walking around looking like Igor any longer. Not that I could actually get up the last two days...whinewhinewhine.

I just have to comment that we have the best folks on here! Someone has volunteered to hand carry eggs from me to another member, and I thought that was just as sweet as can be.

Agreed, those are beautiful!
Areille, don't look at me, the gene sequencing is over my head, I just quoted Kathy so I could see that gorgeous roo again.
He IS somethin, isn't he?

Lovely! Yes, You were quoting Kathy and in doing so kept me thinking "how can I create this from what I already have?" Chicken math is dangerous!

It's hard to believe the hatch hasn't started yet and there is already over 200 pages here...

Well I'm itching to start collecting eggs too! Will be my first year of working to get Blue Rocks. Have a mixed Blue rooster (Cordon) that was 50% Orp, 50% Red Star, an unscrupulous breeder I bought Orps from, that is over a nice blue Orp and Black Rock. Those are the only eggs I'll be collecting so will start gathering them for hatching this Sunday.

Macs are similar but have different keyboard short cuts.

I hope this helps.

That's how to do it!!!
