Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Sally is just plumb gorgeous! As are those eggs you have there! Very nice variety of colors!

Those fat puppies look like little piggies!

The Ameraucana from bargain's eggs is blue, not lavender..... and it looks girly to me.

I can not tell sexes well at all. I will hope with you, that they are pullets!

I'm not sure he knows how this works since my hens aren't laying, this will be their first year to lay so who knows when they will start. This will be our first time to incubate eggs if we get any

Can you pay for shipping??? LOL

Much as I would love to catch up with you all, I am forced to skip most of the posts due to fishing, going to the beach and out for live music each night. I am starting to love Florida - especially since we got almost 2 feet of snow back home while I was gone.

Love the puppies, they are so cute when they are fat little piglets

Kathy, sorry about your hen, she looks like she was a real charactor.

Did score a dozen ebay eggs (dorkings, cuckoo orp, JG mixed batch), then heard from a bantam cochin breeder who has brown reds and LB eggs and will send me some of each!! So I am starting to think I have a serious egg addiction. I think that brings me up to 6 dozen or so (maybe 7?) - wish I had written some of this stuff down.

Kathy I'm so sorry about your hen. I get chocked up every time I lose a bird.

Mahonri what are you feeding those guys??? I just love chubby pups.

Well, the bator is up and running. I have a few days to get the temp regulated but as of now it is all over the place. If anyone knows any tricks, I'm open to advice. It is a stryo Hovabator with a fan and a wafer thermostat. Are the wafers supposed to be warped?

We had a young dog show up at our house tonight, I hate it when people put dogs out. I have to do something with it asap. Noone will be home tomorrow and the chickens free range. Anybody want a puppy? He looks to be around 4 or 5 months old.

Did I ever show y'all this pic of my little girl?

It went global on Reuters back in December....

I'm so lucky I married a red head... I got two boys with auburn hair and a little girl with red hair, just like her mamma!

We have this problem big time at my house. This is why we only free range while we are home. I think there is a website somewhere that posts Drop off your unwanted dog here and lists my address. I even saw a guy do it once and tried to catch up to him with my car, but he really took off then. Gahhhh.......... People please dont ever drop your dog off in the country it is not a pretty death for them!

Ok...I will get off my soap box now...

I'm in! Ducks this time. 6 "barnyard surprise" setting this saturday. 2 from a friend/neighbor right down the street, and 4 from craigslist. I'd do more but I don't want to hatch more babies than I can properly care for :) Trying to find Mahonri's post stating how many and what breeds? Got about 8 pages into the thread and gave up! (wouldn't mind a hint...) I was wondering, is there an easy way I'll be able to tell which ducklings are the ones from my friend and which came from craigslist? My friend said she has mutts that have a little mallard in them. The male is black and hens are a black/white mix. The craigslist ones list several breeds but I'm not sure which we'll be getting. We pick up tomorrow. To be honest, I'm not even positive I'll be able to choose. I'm not terribly picky, but I do think the classic yellow duckling is about the cutest thing on the planet. Any particular breed that will hatch yellow? Or at least enable me to tell them apart from my friends' eggs! I'll mark the eggs so that I can tell them apart during incubation, but I know once they hatch and run all over the bator, all bets are off. Ideas? I considered something like a little id band while I can still tell who came from which egg, but then I mess up the humidity for those still working on their hatch.
