I was going to suggest calibrating the hydrometer also, but if you use ChooksChicks dry hatch cheat sheet, you'll do so much better. I've killed chicks using the other method by drowning them.

So, my interwebs doomaflachee thingamagig is working for me now -- after a ree-diculous amout of tweaking. Yes. Of course! It's the perfect time of year for a hatch. The weather is going to be great. The chicks will be just the right age in the fall to start laying in late August or September. There's still even time to get hatching eggs through the mail. It's like a dream come true. (Fence sitters should now be duly persuaded, no?)

Total Number of Eggs Set Contest

This contest is open to all participants to guess the total number of eggs that will be set by all participants in Mahonri's 3rd Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long! Each participant is to fill out the spreadsheet with their guess as to the total number of eggs that participants will be placing in their incubators for this hatch. All "guesses" must be submitted no later than Midnight EST, Sunday March 11th. Please submit your total number of eggs set to the spreadsheet by Midnight EST Tuesday, March 20th so we can tally up what was set and declare a winner. The person who comes closest to guessing the total number without going over will win a beautiful rooster egg basket.

K guys, I'm quite dissapointed! I am at day 21 on my very first hatch and have NO pips! I tried the dry hatch, 20% humidity for the first 18 days then raised to 80% on day 18. Temp was constant at 99.5-100, what may have gone wrong? I hve an auto Turner as well.

Just for kicks, turn off the incubator but don't open the top. Make some peep sounds and see if you get an answer.

You will need to give more information to the experts here. They will want to know if you used egg cartons. If you adjusted the temp when you removed the egg turner. What did you see in the eggs when you candled them to name a few. As much information as you can provide really.

21 days is an average. It seems like some breeds or lines in a breed will hatch earlier or later. In December I hatched EE's and Marans. The EE's started on day 20 and were through by day 21. My one of 3 Maran's that hatched, hatched on day 22.

Let me know if you hear any chirping in those eggs!

And of course, turn the incubator back on

Eggs are coming this week, eggs in the incubator are due to hatch on the 15th. Two broodies in the back to take care of eggs already in the incubator, just in case they want to hatch late.

I couldnt read all 360 pages, so I just took a wild guess on Mahonri's eggs and breeds, lol.

You turned the turner off right? How do you have them laying in the bator? On their sides, in the turner or in cartons?
