Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

silvadene is expensive, BECAUSE, I would have to.

1. take time off to see a
2. DOCTOR... who charges an office visit $100+ (not covered at all on my ins. plan) to write out the scrip, and pray you don't pick up an infection there because they are almost as bad as hospitals.
3. then you have to find a pharmacy that doesn't try to rip you off. They do that here in AZ. Often we have to ask, "Is it cheaper using insurance or not, Unbelievably, when we ask that question, more often than not, it's cheaper not to use insurance! and... No fredmeyer in the downtown Phoenix area.

I seriously doubt I could even get in to see a doctor on my day off tomorrow, but I'll try because if it will take the pain away it will be worth it.

Looks like Boston will be getting about 6 inches of snow this weekend up in Heber.

I'm late for work.

You are terrible for research, aren't you?? Wal-mart has it on their generic list, so will your grocery store, and any other pharmacy you choose. Just make sure the prescribing person (where's the nurse that scripted you the narcotics??) OKs the use of generics!!!

And if you can't ask her, just call your normal internist and ask for it- mine would prescribe it without seeing me. Lord, if your doc can't trust your judgment as a peer medical professional, you need to find a different doc.

$4. Just DO IT!! It will heal twice as fast or faster. Stop whining and get to it, boss!!

Oh for heaven's sake. Write me a script, and I will go pick it up. I have this huge burn in my mouth from pizza. It's all over the front of my face too. Like Silence of the Lambs. I need silvadene.
Or that!! Sheesh! Some people make problems where there are none...Larissa, you need a veil with that hideous facial burn, and I think your teeth will fall out due to the gum damage. Better see your dentist!

Not necessary... but WOWZA

Now if only one of us could locate this:

At first your picture wasn't showing up so I was going to ask if you were looking for this:
One note of caution on the turkey eggs. I haven't had a chance to check fertility. I know Tom is breeding Lurkey but with both of them being under one year old, I don't know how "effective" he is being. I don't know how many I can send but if she stays on the every other day schedule she seems to be on, would six work for you?

Mahonri, those burns sound atrocious...are you afraid of the hospital? You should have gone! But the meds must be working because you 'sound' much better.

everyone..I may have spent over an hour catching up, but thanks for all the laughs.

And finally, whats a basque chicken? I googled it and this is what I found.

And many variations of this. Somehow I don't think you guys are sending eachother cooked chicken. But then again, maybe its easier to send cooked food than a recipe???

Someone on the Basque Hen Thread suggest watching a special on the Basque Country in Spain and France. It turned out to be a travel show and not only were there no chickens, you could not hear a chicken and none of the food shown was a chicken dish. I posted a Basque Chicken recipe that I have been making for several years to the thread.

Go here to find out about Basque Hens: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/510045/euskal-oiloa-basque-thread

Warning, after reading about them you will want them

That's because the P.O. uses Fed Ex to fly the packages (eggs or chicks) to the states farther away but they (P.O.) drive the packages to addresses within the state or bordering states. I recently shipped some live chicks. Two packages the same day. Our P.O. truck leaves here at 4:00 p.m. The first package arrived in PA by 6:00 a.m. the next day. The second package, which was only going 1 1/2 hr away, arrived two days later in the late afternoon. Thank God they were all still alive. I try and tell those ordering chicks from me that it's better if they come and pick them up if they live within a few hours drive.

So if you're shipping eggs and the P.O. handles them the whole way (meaning they are relatively local) you never know what kind of shape they'll be in when they arrive at their final destination. And the P.O. postmaster personally told me that writing "Fragile - live embryos - hatching eggs - please do not expose to heat or freeze" is doing absolutely "nothing" to ensure special handling - which does not exist. He said everything is handled the same way - goes down conveyor belts, dumped into huge bins, and everything dumped on top including boxes of book or bricks. And, if you bothered to insure the eggs, the P.O. wants the broken eggs all shipped back, has one year to review the claim, and then will only refund the postage.

Just some F.Y.I. from someone who's been there, done that, for four years now.

Thanks for the info Ruth. Good to know and no big surprise really.

6 would be the max I would want! I wanted 2 ducks, got 6 eggs and now I have 5 ducks.

Thank you for your kindness!

I still have to break it to the BF.

Tell him he is not going to believe how yummy they are. Don't get me wrong, they taste like turkey, just a richer flavor. The gravy that I made from the stock was out of this world. So worth raising the heritage breeds yourself IMO. As long as you don't have blackhead issues in your area, they can be raised and live with the chickens. We don't have an issue here so I keep mine all together. I will give you the same warning that I got from Denny (lotsapaints), they fly REALLY WELL so you will have to clip their wing feathers to keep them in any pens that don't have a cover.

Yes they do fly well!! We came home late one night after a family get togethe, it was late and dark and I forgot to put the porch light on before leaving. And the screen door had swung open as usual. Two of the turkeys had roosted high on the door waiting for our return!! They were waiting to go in--to a brooder recently vacated in the house!
