Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I know it is best for me to not mess with the eggs everyday, but is there a suggested day(s) that candling should be done?

I know I've said it more than once here, but I only candle twice. On day 9 or 10 and day 18. I do it on day 9 or10 so that I can take the eggs that are stacked and put them in their own position because there are always scrambled eggs and quitters.

Well, it's official. I can't do anything to help. The only horse rescue in the area no longer takes unwanted horses. I just don't know what to do anymore. Dad would murder me (for real this time) if I called the guy and told him I'd take him... cuz I would. I really would. I really need to figure something out.
Would any 4-H group know of someone looking for a horse/pony?

Sorry , I misunderstood, I thought you were considering the purchase of another incubator, and thought a PC fan would be cheaper than the purchase price of an incubator.

Great idea. Or ad posting on a local horsey site directing interested parties to the listing. Horses have had a tough time, like many other animals, since the crash. Locally 32 minis were removed from a farm, complicated problem there, and the minis are already finding new homes. All very sad.

I get revenge for when my daughter was younger and gave me such a hard time. When she got her first home of her own I would go over everyday after work and help myself to something to drink and leave the glass where I was sitting and go get another for another drink and leave that too. Spoil the geandson and leave. When we get invited for a meal I use a different dish and silverware for everything and leave it for her to clean up. lol As far as the kids go we spoil them rotten, give them what they want (with in reason) then before they go home we sugar them up.

Ain't that what grandparents are suppose to do?

Except when you are babysitting and I don't know how the kids get their little ones to save it all up for you but MAN!!! I swear that's exactly what they are doing sometimes! Haha It's no biggy though. If this is the worst life throws at me I am doing WELL!!!

And I'm caught up.

Went to home depot, bought a rain gutter, installed it.

Put water on the shingles over the grow out pen. Still had a problem.
Went and bought some flashing, Didnt' work.

I'm going to have to do some major caulking and probably paint with roof sealer an area of newly shingled roof.

Other than that, the rain gutter worked like a champ.

Burns seem to be getting a bit better. DW talked me into going for a walk so that my legs could get circulation... she said, rightly so, how can the burnt areas get the nutrition they need from your blood stream if it isn't flowing right? Made sense... incredibly, I'm not in as much pain as I had imagined. I have major areas of skin falling off, but the red skin underneath looks healthy.. It's just the areas where the skin sloughed off immediately that don't look the best, but scab formation is under way and I alternate between the silvatene and the neosporin. DW went to work with the girls youth group tonight so I took the two youngest to MickeyDees for nuggets and McFlurries.

The 1588 is humming along like a champ. I do have to add a little water from time to time to keep it between 25 & 30%.

I only got 6 eggs today and I could tell that at least one had broken and was eaten in the far south nest box.
I haven't had an egg from my Icelandic in almost two weeks... I hope she's not my egg eater. I hate when that happens. Day before last I got 10 eggs, and 10 the day before that.

I'm hoping I can get some good sleep as I have a FULL day scheduled tomorrow.

Linda, you have me laughing so hard again my eyes were shedding tears. Thanks. I needed that.

Four days down, 17 to go!!

It is a great idea, I just have no idea where to start. Time to go do a search I suppose.

Here is my problem, I am not a confident candler. First time I candled eggs under a broody I took out a bunch I didn't see development in and when I started breaking the open there were embryos. Now I see things and think, "hmmm.... There's kind of a ring there is that a blood ring? Well Ill leave it until it smells" Or I can't see anything in this one...maybe my candler isn't bright enough, leave it and see if it hatches. Or...this egg is too dark Or in the end all the eggs developed or not, half is super dark and tip is light so I can't ever tell anything them. So.... Who wants to come visit me in Oklahoma and help me candle.

Then we could go hit up my family to cook for us! Nah, they'd see me coming and run.
