Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

You're not alone. I've had the same thoughts --only my thoughts are yanked to a halt <snippety do dah>
It's killin' me!!! While I bet an adult emu would be great at keeping strangers of any genus out of my yard, there still isn't enough space here to adequately keep an emu. .62 acre. All at a slant, so an emu could get a running start at the top of the property and get up enough forward motion to leap the 5 foot fence at the bottom of the incline. Trajectory alone would allow for escape.

I really REALLY must get a pair of emus someday!!!!!!! Its not even something that can be negotiated. This just must happen. HOPEFULLY, if all continues as we plan on our merry journey we will be buying the house we are in in 3 yrs. And said house comes with 8 acres......Granted, right now those 8 acres are wooded, but since I have 3 years I think I have time to clear some of that for a pair of emus! And probably some other stuff too!!!!!!!

My husband is not on board with this plan. He says no way will we have emus, he doesnt want to be "those" neighbors.

I say 2 things: 1- we already are "those" neighbors andd 2- Its really cute when you try and put your foot down!

AMEN! I, too, am an Atkins convert. I read the book years ago. I have believed in the program (haven't always followed it, but that is because of my weaknesses, not the program's) and used it to lose weight, even under the barrage of the anti-Atkins camp that will tout the dangers of a program they do not understand nor do they care to learn. I have laughed through the years when the news reports that Atkins is not as bad as was once thought (WHO thought? People who never read the book or the studies!) and then later when the reports claimed there could be some health benefits to a low carb diet. HA! YA THINK? We that "do Atkins" knew that all along. The bright side is, there are more and more experts that are backing off of their stand that it is harmful and I forsee a resurgance of followers of the program. Bottom line is, if you do it right, according to the way Dr. Atkins prescribed in the book, you will lose weight, and improve your general health without being hungry at all!

I'm not sure what "mare stare" is. We foaled the old fashioned way and I got lucky. I was checking on her every half hour through the evening/night. Vet had checked on her earlier that day so we were confident it would be that night. I arrived for the 1 AM check - she looked at me as if to say - "Where have you been????" Big groan and she expelled her water. LOADS of water. He was up and nursing by 4 AM. I nearly wore out the camera that night. Absolutely textbook smooth delivery. Videotaped the whole thing too.
For those of you not fortunate enough to have gestating equines at your home, mares are notorious for being very secretive about foaling - a good adaptation for a wild horse, as they are completely helpless for a period of time during foaling, and don't want to give the predators a hint. It is, however, extremely frustrating for mare owners, as you have a very short amount of time to intervene if there is a problem with delivery. Mares can "hold it" until they are completely alone. Owners develop a look about them that "mare stare" describes completely.
Lol I'm confused now. I was talking about marestare the website. For those without horses if you can imagine a camera above your incubator and people online watching it around the world 24/7 and calling you if the temp spikes or plummets or eggs start rocking or a chick starts to pop or zip. That's what marestare is except for horses. Very addicting... Kind of like Byc. If your in the mood to watch a live gosling that's where you go.

Atkins is the ONLY diet that has worked for me. Once I have made it 3 days, I can stick with it for a while. I was never a dieter anyway. . what was the point of starving for 2 days and then binge. THat was the 70's. ANd it is so great to see studies vindicating Atkins as one of the best for long term weight loss IF you stay with it forever.
