Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Should have seen me today. The power kept going out and I was freaking out. I had no reason to. It went out for about 5 mins each time and came back on. I never lost heat in the bator. SIL was laughing at me. She thinks it's futile to try and keep the temp steady when the power goes out. I have no idea where she got that idea from

Congrats Deb! It was a wonderful idea. I think I'll use it if I ever start shipping eggs.

Doesn't look like I missed too much here on the thread. Went to a lab up on 32nd Street for my CE course, just north of Cactus...not that far from Larees.

I am going to be SO busy the next four days.

I can't wait till Sunday.

It just dawned on me I forgot to actually add pics of the eggs in the incubator, like I was s'posed to...

(whoops...)
So, here's one I had on the 'puter already, from day one or two:

Yes, that is, indeed, multiple colors of duct tape, and zip ties.

It was my first incubator build, what can I say?

Is this egg still OK? Took pics tonight day 10. Anyone know what is going on with it?

This is what it look like on one side:

This is what it looks like on the other side:

I think this looks like an egg that didn't get turned right for the first week- or got stalled somehow.

Debs_flock with her use of pipe insulation to wrap shipping eggs!!!!

Thank you to everyone for participating. Deb, PM me your address, and I will send you your prize.

I used it to ship when I ran out of foam yesterday. I cut strips to fill in the gap since the pipe insulation I have isn't quite big enough for the eggs I sent.

update on princess!
Ok so she got her stitches out and the wounds look great! Dry and healing really well no weeping or sweeling and she acts like she is feeling great...she got to go back out to the coop yesterday and sleep with the other silkies.

Yay! Love the good news!

No, wait, I've got it...name the turkeys "(Tom) Cruiser" (of course) and "Tilley." If there are more than one hen, then call them "Millie," "Billi," "Gilley," that could go on for a while! Or sticking with the Tom Cruise theme, Kat or Suri or maybe leading ladies?

Have I mentioned I love the name game?

Yes, you have. Me, too! Or even Tom Cruise movie titles for chicken names ... the options are numerous: Top Gun, Risky, Business, MI3, Ghost (for MI: Ghost Protocol), Jerry Maguire, Cocktail, Samurai, Rain Man.

Candled last night, am very grateful that I have been reading here, because I had something happen that has never happened to me before, but read that it had to a couple of others on here, and then...there was the advice! I had an egg stick to the turner. I thought, on no...it's going to break if I try to force it any more than what I'm doing now. Then I remembered what I read..yep, a little bit of water just around the egg..and it worked loose. Candled it, and it was not good, I could feel little sticky spots on it, so knew it had started to weep. So, thanks to those that gave the advice on how to get a stuck egg out of a turner! Can't remember who you were..sorry, lots of posts here..lol...just glad I read that.

That's great to hear. Well ... not that you lost an egg. Sorry about that. The great part is how helpful this hatch-a-long is.

Yep, they tricked you. You have been violated.

FatOne? My first thought was that you named her after Joey, that boy band guy. His last name is Fatone. They sang Bye, Bye, Bye and Justin Timberlake was part of the group. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the group. I figured if I just kept typing that it would come to me, but no.

Have a look if you like and let me know what you think.

Looks good to me.

The hoop house will need some repairs, spangled. Part of the bottom rail will be replaced, and two of the actual hoops. I guess the rope that tied it to the stake came loose, which is how it managed to take off. These are big (20 x 24), so once the wind takes a hold of them it is like a giant sail. Ours are moved with a tractor.

Those are huge hoop houses. Ours are dinky in comparison at about 10 x 10.

Okay, so I guess I should turn off the lights and candle. I shouldn't put it off any longer.

I was a tad disappointed that we haven't gotten more candling reports!!!

I am certainly grateful that most of you have done better than myself.
