Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Right after I throw these duds out, I'm starting another batch

Good for you! Me, too! I just emptied out my trays and am getting ready to fill them up!

Well, my hatch is officially over. Of the 7 eggs I set. 2 were quitters, 2 died in lockdown, 2 are in the brooder, the last one is in the Brinsea with an unabsorbed yolk sac. I don't think it's going to make it. I don't think I meant to have this line of W/BWA. :(

I've only had a couple more hatch. I think the rest are gonners. I'm not loosing hope though. I always leave eggs a few extra days just in case. One broody hatched all 3 of her remaining eggs that are from my birds and the other hatched 1 that was also from my birds. The other eggs I gave her are shipped eggs and so far they didn't hatch. I gave her 2 more chicks so they both have 3 babies each so theirs now squabbling which they probably won't anyway but I didn't want to take the chance. They are in the carport room but unless there is a ruckus going on I won't be able to prevent anything. I only had 3 jb quail make it and 3 from shipped eggs. The rest of the chicks are mine. I've never had such a bad hatch from shipped eggs. I think I have 31 chicks. I'm not exactly sure but i'm waiting to see if there are any late hatchers.

The chicks from Hot2Pot are very healthy and active. Very nice babies. I got 2 ee and a pr from her eggs. So far nobody elses have hatched. I did find a mystery egg today under one of the broodies. I know it came from Moe. She's been in the house growing feathers back after constantly laying eggs since last spring. I had thought she finally stopped then found 5 eggs under the broody I found the extra egg under today.

I'll get pics and a head count when it gets closer to the end date.

I still have chicks hatching. I think I'm going to float test the ones that haven't pipped tomorrow. The lone EE had to be tossed today. The shell was too hard for it to pip. I don't hold out much hope for the 2 OEs, but we'll see tomorrow.

I'm off to bed early. I've come down with a really bad cold and I feel terrible.

Got back from being out of town all Saturday and most of today. Found nine chicks out when I checked and another has hatched since we've been home. So far the count is:
8 Iowa Blue/Ameraucana's
1 EE
1 W/BW Ameraucana.

I have to catch up from page 956!!

ETA: Just caught up to here on Tuesday @ 1330...whew!!!

My little serama finally stopped chirping loudly and is finally taking a snooze. I think she's tired. I know she's lonely. I think i'm going to try and brood her with the polish. They're huge compared to her, but I don't know what else to do. I need to set up a different brooder. The one I have is just too big I think. I'm also going to try to create my own little eco-glow with my flex-watt heat tape. I want to give her the best chance at survival. I'm already so in love. She is seriously the tiniest little thing.

I recandled my eggs to sort them. THis is when I move the clears to the side and recheck the developed eggs. I'll wait until tomorrow for the last two that are developed. As I'm closing the lid-peep. One more!!
