Mahonri's First Annual New Year's Day Hatch/Jan 2010

MuranoFarms - congrats on the new baby. It is so cute. Now I want ducks to, but I have no where to put them.

Rustyswoman - I'm so sorry about your Buckeye. I am hatching out Buckeyes as well. I have 1 completely hatched, 1 laying on its side with the top of the egg off resting, and two pips. I have 6 more that haven't done anything yet.

Wow, those are beautiful chickens and chicks. Thank you for those pics.

So... I opened up the bator helped the stuck chick out and candled the other eggs. Here is what I found:

The chick I had to help out is just a little immature. It's bottom is still a little open and needs to dry out.

The one huge Marans egg didn't make it and looks like it hadn't develped for awhile

The two Buckeye eggs had chicks alive in them. I helped one out (it had pipped at the wrong end and I couldn't see) anyway as I got it out it was sad. It's insides were on the outside. So it is no more.

The last Buckeye was stuck and I don't know if it has more extensive issues because I have it resting before going further. It started to bleed. I will know more in a few hours.

Rustywoman, my next project is banatm Buckeyes! They are so docile and quiet. I am absolutely enthralled with them. Maybe I read you on that thread. I do and will have eggs available for any of the breeds I have pics of if you're interested, just PM me.

Pip #1... FBCM (shipped/1588)at about 6:00AM... still just pipped.... pip just got a little bigger

Pip #2... FBCM (shipped/1588) at about 6:30AM... zipping. First to hatch at Noon, just starting day 21.

Pip #3...BW/BW (coop#1/1588)at about 12:10PM... nice pip!

Nothing in the Brinsea... YET... wondering if I shoud have put them all in the Hovabator....

You're very sweet Mahonri. They aren't going to drown at this point unless they are in a position where they can't get their beaks out of the fluid when they pip and that is one of the best reasons for the dry incubation. Not too much fluid.

I only lost 2 eggs out of 17 in my hatch yesterday. Although I did have to cull the one chick. At least they are alive and not drowned.

Just checked eggs and one Buttercup is pipped and another is in the air cell. Usually the first one is the fastest. Hope to have a beak or the whole peeper out of the shell by midnight!

Mahroni-

You are so funny! Such a worried parent! I can't imagine how you had so many children! Lots of pacing?

Yeah... no drowners yet!

Pip #1... FBCM (shipped/1588)at about 6:00AM... starting to zip 12:51PM

HATCHED- Pip #2... FBCM (shipped/1588) at about 6:30AM... zipping. First to hatch at Noon, just starting day 21. "Pierre"

Pip #3...BW/BW (coop#1/1588)at about 12:10PM... nice pip!

44 left to pip!

Teacher:

I still have 44 with no signs of hatching... zero pips in the Brinsea.... the three active ones are in the 1588

But I'm having faith!!
