Mahonri's NYD Late Bloomers thread

I totally understand. I am SOO grateful to have a supportive husband! It makes all the difference in the world. I'm so sorry you're not there, too, right now. I think there's this mother part in us that just doesn't give up, and hatching chicken eggs makes it come out in spades. We had kids late (40's) and this is how I felt then, too. I gotta try one more time and then give it a rest, too. Just need a few more fuzzy ones bouncing around before I leave this feeling for a little while.

But, yes, I REALLY need to spend some time on dishes and laundry, too!!!!! Oh, for a maid, nanny, and cook who doesn't share my name and face!!

I'm there with you! Candeling reminded me of all those sonograms (and with 4 kids, I had alot of sono's!) I'm a terrible maid; and its all I do! It's sort of like chasing my tail with all the kids to tear it up before its done. BTW... got a pip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it. I came home from work and a splash marans hatched and the other pullet project egg was 80% zipped (now hatched). 48+ hours overdue!!!

sooo here is my count so far for my NY hatch.....except turkeys which got set late due to shipping

0/3 Midget White Turkey (Turkeys due 1/3/11)
1/4 Splash Marans
3/11 Blue Eggs (I can't remember which ones are which White and W/BW Ameraucana's)
2/2 1st gen. Olive Eggers (Too Dark to tell)
2/2 Project Pullet eggs (Too thick to tell)

8/22 still holding hope that something else will surprise me!!

OK you guys need to try again.'

Come and join us for the Chinese New Year hatch.

I shave spent almost $2000 since July with only a few birds to show for it.

I'm broke but on a mission.

This doesn't seem to be a large group like this last one, but getting more people to join in.

well i might have to throw my name in the hat for the late bloomers. i stll have 15 eggs in the bator - they all passed the float test but no movement. i actually could see air cells that previously were not visible. what do you guys think, should i give them one more day and risk a nuclear explosion?

PLease explain the "float test". I have 5 I candled this morning; only 1 moving. I'm holding out until tonight. Going to let my boys do eggtopsy on one of the others; either gross them out or turn them into surgeons.

I got a baby! DH asked me not to do this again, because "he can't take the stress"???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Take a very warm glass of water. Place the egg in it....give it a few seconds to stop moving. Watch carefully. if it starts to rock or wiggle on its own, its alive. If not.....it probably quit developing at some point.
