mail delevered to my truck!!!!

ETA what pisses me off the most about all this is that GOVERMENT employes are some of the only people not suffering in this economy, they have benifits, good pay, vacation, and good medical insurance, so do your DARN job cause there are a ton of people who would kill to be that lucky these days! But instead they walk around the po office moving at the pace of a slug and cant even bother to put mail in the mail box!

I couldn't agree more - my bloodpressure goes up even thinking about some of the (edited here by myself for language) people (?) I've had to deal with at the PO.

I had medication delivered for my dog that had to be kept refrigerated. It was packaged correctly, but certainly not delivered in a timely manner. God forbid I should ever trust a delivery of eggs or baby chicks.

When we first moved to our home in 1984, we had a mail man that had a habit of just throwing the mail out of his window as he drove by - he spent too much time over lunch at the local watering hole and had to hurry and finish route. We complained, but that only made things worse. He would knock over the mail box, then stick the mail inside it wadded up. We filed a complaint at a different post office to be sent to some regional office (I'm not sure exactly where that postmaster sent it - he took care of it for me - I wasn't the only one complaining about our local post office at the time). An investigation insued, and there were bags of mail in a storage room that were several years old! Needless to say, we got a whole new post office staff.

Our service now is awsome. Mail in the box, the carrier happy to put stamps on it for us (assuming we provide the $$ for the stamps) and she brings anything she thinks might be super important to the door if it's raining. Definitely to the door if it's icy - she doesn't want my husband out trying to walk on the ice (he doesn't get around very well due to a stroke). I have no complaints - other than I did ask her to please stop bringing me any more bills!

It is frustrating. You know, it doesn't take any more energy to do your job in a pleasant and efficient manner than it does to be nasty and try to cover up your mistakes. I've never understood how people couldn't realize that. Fortunately, our mail carrier is very nice and very thoughtful; we are lucky to live in rural America!

I'd have GIGANTIC hissy fit. That is trespassing, correct? Your car is your property and she had no right to put anything in there.

Our regular UPS guy (a sweetheart) has been know to hang an occasional light package or envelope from the tree by our back door, BUT he does that so our dogs don't chew it up. He doesn't know that my dogs know better...my turkeys however are a different story

I'm a mail carrier (a sub to boot!) and I have often left packages in garbage cans, under door mats, or even under large trucks, etc. in inclement weather and whatnot. Many of our elderly customers actually want us to walk in their house and put the packages and mail on a table for them! A lot of times I forget garbage bags to put packages in, a lot of houses don't have nice big front porches! But I ALWAYS leave a notice, the reason that I do this is so the customer doesn't have to come in the office for their packages and the packages are protected from the weather. If I have a bad day and I screw up somehow, leave the package in a location the home owner doesn't frequent or left somewhere they didn't want it to be, my postmaster goes ballistic on me and rightfully so!

Oh, this past spring I had the honor of delivering hatching eggs for the first time!! They were placed in a mail bucket and covered with tape over the top with a large sign saying "Hatching Eggs-Fragile" and even had a cute pic of a chick busting out of its shell! Too cute! I delivered it right to the door and they were so happy to see me!!
smile.png
Now again, if they hadn't been home I would have had to leave a notice and it having been a Saturday they would have had to wait until Monday a.m. to pick their eggs up.

Remember too, that not everyone checks their boxes out on a daily basis and that is where we usually put notices, I prefer to leave them in the box rather than the door because of the weather conditions. It may start out as a nice day, but if you're gone for a long weekend and it gets crappy out, the notice can get ruined. Check the boxes!!

That being said, it is really helpful when people clean their mailboxes out on a daily basis (especially this time of year!) and also-feel free to call the office and talk to your local postmaster and tell them where you prefer packages to be delivered. They will tell the regular carrier and they'll tell their sub, mistakes do happen, but some are inexcusable as in not leaving notices, leaving packages curbside; really how lazy can you be! Granted, not every office is as on top of things as mine is (unfortunately some people just don't care), but I've worked in several locally and they all seem to be fairly conscientious. Unfortunately due to union rules, short of stealing, it is very hard to get fired-one of the pros and cons of unions.

To the OP, I would definitely talk to your regular carrier and tell her what happened, don't take it out on them, but just explain the situation. Trust me, no one wants to be criticized and if your regular is on top of things, they will tell their sub! I'm so sorry this happened to you, but maybe you had a newbie and they thought they were doing the right thing? There are so many rules and regs to remember when you start out it is quite nerve wracking! Not taking sides, but just remembering what I was like when I first started-scared to death I was going to screw up somehow and so nervous if I couldn't find somewhere to put a package.

ETA: Sorry this is so long!!

Trilyn,

I would not be upset at all if my regular carrier, that I know and trust put something in the car, the garage or whatever and left me a note in the mailbox. I'd much prefer that than driving the almost hour round trip to my PO *the next day*, but I certainly don't want someone I don't know in my car, garage or house

As for in home deliveries for elderly or people needing assistance, I think it is awesome that you and many other carriers go to the effort to make sure those folks are so well cared for

Well its good to know there are some great postal folks. I just adore my regular mailman he always brings my eggs to the door no matter what the weather and you should see the way he handles them like they were fine china

He was telling me about how that sub I am having issues with stole a good percentage of his holiday tips. Lucky fort me I always hand it to him directly so I know he gets the cash. He said the same thing, short of a major offence she wont be fired and he cant prove she toiok his tips it is just based on what the home owners told him.

Rarebreed-totally understand and you have a very valid point. I wouldn't want somebody in my car or house either. If the front door is open to a covered porch, that's as far as I go-it feels like trespassing to me even then!

As for in home deliveries for elderly or people needing assistance, I think it is awesome that you and many other carriers go to the effort to make sure those folks are so well cared for Thank you!!

Ahappychick-that's how I was when I handled the eggs-they're precious you know!!
lol.png
That's awful about the sub taking tips!

I love my job and it is so worth it to see people's faces light up (especially little kids-I love it when they run to the truck for their mail) when you give them their package they've been waiting for! Now if we can just get the tractor trailers to slow down and move over a tad!!
