I order from Cackle and I call my post office the day they are supposed to ship and let them know I am expecting babies. I got a delivery today and my son picked them up for me. I don't let them go in the mail truck.

I ordered 50 chicks frm ideal 2 weeks ago. When they arrived all were fine except 1 and she died the next day. I have since lost 3 more but the rest are doing fine. I live in Tennessee.

get some poly-vi-sol in the water for the chicks or some other vitamin, or even sugar water maybe it will help the ones that are struggling. So sorry

I have also ordered from ideal... Every time I received my orders every body was good to go. The last time though, I lost one ducky

As far as the PO goes, I was under the impression they were not even supposed to put live animals in the delivery truck... I would talk to ideal AND the PO. Make sure they don't do that again.

Just as a comfort to the one who is having chicks shipped to KY - I got 110 chicks yesterday - all arrived alive - they packed them in twice as much box as they did in the spring (ordered 110 in March, also).

I ordered from Reichs in PA, but I haven't ever had a problem with Ideal.

I always make sure I pick them up myself at the PO, however, if not just because of the long ride in the heat for them, but for my poor postal carrier having to ride with 100+ chirping chickies for however long it takes him to get to my house. Not everyone enjoys that sound

Hi,
Sorry you've had such a terrible time! How sad for you. Don't give up. I've order from Ideal for the last several years with no problems whatsoever - I live in Nebraska. Be sure to call Ideal and let them know what happened. I'm sure they'll take care of you.

Good Luck...

Newly hatched chicks are just too delicate to survive the trauma of being shipped in hot and/or humid weather.

I would suggest that you two a couple things.

1) Find a hatchery close to you so climate and environment are most similar.
2) Order in the spring to minimize accidents (February)
3) Go to your local feed store where they have pullets and choose from those you can visibly see are in good health. Sometimes your local feed store will order what you want when they order theirs which is a bonus.

Personally for me here in California. I swear by Belt Hatchery in Fresno. Have never lost a chick and all have been 110% girls.
