maine chickenstock!! pictures of the event!!

I'm pretty sure there are two grain dealers located in Litchfield, is that someone that the group might like to contact to see if they would like to be vendors? Knight's Feed is one and the other one used to be Rockin T but I am not sure if they still go by the same name. But they are a Poulin grain dealer.

Naive to the workings of this event, so please help me. Do we charge for vendor's or ask for a donation of items for raffle or just be glad that they came?

I also posted limited information about the event on Maine Riders (a horse forum with several poultry people) and emailed several friends last night.

what we did was sold soda, water, for 1.-
sold food etc, the raffle was if someone brought something like soap or etc we asked for some to put on the raffle table to raffle off, all the donations that came in for money paid us back for all the soda etc that we bought, then my mother went in and bought a gift card for tsc and a few other things, also tsc donated and so did agway, i believe.
this isnt a money making venture by any means, your lucky to break even.
we didnt have food vender but i supose if you have one like 4h let them sell for donations for themselves,my opinion only.

Instead of a raffle, perhaps we could get donations of prizes to do a chinese auction. What do you think?

For those who do not know what it is, you lay out the articles, sell tickets 3 for a dollar and having a container or brown bag to accept tickets for the things you choose. Then at a certain time, you draw tickets for the winners of those objects.

I wouldn't mind handling that part, I am in hopes to have a few things that I'll be glad to pic up at a very low cost (to me). Perhaps grain, scratch, soaps and a few Kids things.
See what we can come up with!

Whatcha think? We need some Backyard Chicken stuff!!!!

i have seen that done, remind me to bring sticky dots, i have seen the buckets fly in the wind and then you dont know what went to what, oh i have a cross stitched rooster that would be great for that if i could get him done , i am half blind now and cant see to finish him,

also, i have a new, wooden hand made rooster puzzle, both sides are painted differant colors that would be fun for a kid, my sisters so's father makes them. way out in another state somewhere, she brought it back for me, what will i do with it, lol

well, i guess i like the idea..lol
also spook, i think that would be great for you as we can all come by to say hello to you while your manning the table, that way you dont miss meeting anyone, i was so busy last one i didnt get much chance to really meet anyone, maybe i will sit with you and let dh take the busy part of it,,hmmm maybe not, someone will get a speckled sussex instead of a partridge rock like last time, if your out there and your reading this and you got some partridge rocks and one seems a little different your the lucky one, poor meg , brought it for her, figured i;d leave it with its litter mates , i knew which one it was, didnt say anything to him, why would i, and gone, he sold it when my back was turned for a second, oh well,

I think somewhere someone mentioned asking a 4H group to have a food booth. I don't wish to step on toes if this plan has worked out, but Spirit of Hope equine rescue may be interested in doing a food booth to help their rescue efforts. I will post a link to her website if anyone wants to follow up on her offer. She is also a poultry fancier.

Chinese auctions have done well with many groups where I am a member.

I think it was me who made the suggestion about 4-H. As far as I know, no one has been contacted.

I personally have no problem with an equine rescue running a food booth. Actually I think it would be rather cool since I'm both a horse and chicken fanatic.

I would rather see money go to a non-profit organization where it's going to do some good then in some one's wallet.

But I believe it is ultimately up to MM to decide.

I agree with you folks on mm's choice, anyone that would do food deserves to keep the change, if its a worthy cause, then great.

With the $$ on raffles, chinese auctions, what do you do with that money? Personally I feel that it should go to the fair grounds as an appreciation for the use of the grounds.

Subject to change, just putting it out there to see what others say, honestly I do not know...

I would be willing to donate a percentage of my proceeds to the Litchfield Fairgrounds.

I only make 79 cents per bar in profit.....so technically I only made $23 after selling 30 bars of soap.

BUT I did have a BLAST and enjoyed seeing everyone's birds. Got rid of 2 very sweet Polish Roo's!!
Everyone was so nice and I loved hearing how much everyone LOVED the soap...I usually sell on etsy and never hear anything. Family and Friends buy most of my soap...and they LIE to me. So it was nice to see complete strangers excited about our soap. DH helps STIR!! I even lowered the price for Chickenstock folks...I usually sell for $3 and $4 for certain recipes. I think of you all as family...so lowering it did not take any thought!! FAMILY PRICE!!

I did get 2 orders for soap for special occasions...at the NH stock...which was VERY cool!!

OK Here it is.....

I love all the posts and please dont feel that you all have to clear everything with me. I love the group effort that is being put into this.

4H I am trying to track down a number for the local one and get food that was however, Frozen Feathers if you know how to reach someone from equine I think that is great too.
I am unsure on what to tell them on a possible head count for food.

I love the donation idea to the Fairgrounds as they were EXTREMELY generous to donate it to us.

Raffles:
If we all work on collecting some and just posting on here what we have and then bringng them to a Donation table the day of the event that would be great.

I think it is a great idea to have kids raffles as well. They love to get involved.

I am also going to contact the local paper and try to get them to run a FREE ad for us. The day before and the day of.

If anyone has any flyers that they could email me copies of I would love to see your ideas or steal them...lol for flyers to be posted in this area as well.

I like the idea of 9-1 and then if we go over oh well but at least we can not be there through the heat of the day.

** We may only have use of one bathroom and we are responsible for cleaning it after and taking the trash.
