maine chickenstock!! pictures of the event!!

I can contact the equine rescue group if Frozen Feathers doesn't find a 4 H group. She is good to go if we do need her with a menu of cold drinks, sandwiches made to order (subs or wraps) Grill for Burgers and Hot Dog and brownies, cookies and whoopie pies.

I can also contact the feed stores if you are looking for vendors and donations. I am central to Lyman's in Fairfield, Agway in Winslow, Hemphill's in N. Vassalboro, Knight's and the other one that I will remember their new name someday soon I hope.

I need to check my basket supply, I may have some that can be used to make up raffle baskets.

verthandi
Thank you for talking to your local feed stores and you and Frozen Feathers can figure out the equine thing.

Thanks for the help.

Cool Verthandi, I would say go right ahead and contact the rescue group and feed stores. You are from the area, and I am about an hour away, so I really don't where anything is up there.

I also found a group called Maine Alternative Poultry Association and have sent their secretary the invite.

This is looking good! I wonder if someone should stand at the gate, not for any other reason then to have a count, or have a sign in sheet. I wish we could have counted the people at the NH event, that was interesting with all those milling around. I don't believe anyone that had critters was able to walk around. Unreal how people kept everyone hopping.

Spook
I think that is a great idea and have people sign in and if the are a BYC member sign in with their BYC name.

But I am afraid that most people will want to be in where everyone is not at the gate. Maybe we should have a sign in at the Raffle table and make a sign for sign in and for raffles.

absolutely, I will pick up a note book at some point in my travels. The chinese auction is looking good if everyone can toss something into the table. My sister-in-law that makes baskets is going to make a egg basket- I am not sure what is in her mind, but she is SoOOO creative, that without a doubt I wish I was going to be able to win it!
Also, in hopes that she will be able to join us with her baskets or come help on the tables.
Do you think that plants such as iris', lillies would be ok for the auction table?
I have seen lotions, soaps, puzzles, stationary and stuff like that at some auction tables.
Also, how does this sound to you folks- 10 am tickets sales begin with dropping your ticket into bags (like bids) closing bids at 11:30 and 12 noon everyone gathers to see if they won the prize as one ticket is drawn. Winners will need to be there to listen to the numbers, and retrive their prize.

Any other suggestions or donations?

At the NH chickenstock, I went around seeing who was a BYC member and it ended up that I became a spokes person for this site- not that I mind, lots of great people at the fest! I know I missed oodles of people that were members but I missed them.
Have a great night!

I"m new on the forum, and I'm from Maine. Actually, I'm from Spirit of Hope Farm, the equine rescue/shelter that verthandi mentioned. I just thought I'd introduce myself and welcome any questions you all may have about what we do here at our rescue/shelter or about what kind of food we can offer all of you ChickenStock enthusiasts!

We operate a state licensed shelter for horses here in Maine. We currently have 7 horses here and are in a holding pattern until fall since we anticipate a huge need for emergent placements by then. Our farm is completely self-funded with the exception of the heartfelt but sporadic donations from others so we have to engage in fundraising to keep going, hence the food table at your event.

Now about my poultry:

I am relatively new to poultry raising. I have had chickens before, as a kid, but this is the first time I have raised some from day-olds and I'm loving it! All of my birds are 6 weeks old. We have 6 White Leghorns (one is a cute roo we call "Wee Man"), 6 Silver-Laced Wyandottes, 6 Plymouth Barred Rocks, and 6 Rhode Island Reds in the layer coop. We also have 26 turkey poults in the turkey pen, and 29 Cornish Rocks in the broiler pen. I can't get over what eating machines the Rocks are! They look like me when I was 8 months pregnant, lol. We put a park bench between the outside runs and I just sit and watch them. They are more entertaining than anything on TV!

Anyway, this is a magnificent, informative website and I hope to be able to share more of my poultry adventures with you all! I hope to also see you at the Litchfield Fairgrounds for Chickenstock!

Glad you could join us and can't wait to see you at chickenstock.

Will you be selling food?

Welcome to BYC HennyRoo!
Love what you do for horses and am so glad that you are going to be joining us for Chickenstock!!

Spook- I think that sounds like a plan.
I don't see why everything at the auction would have to be chicken related. I am more then happy to pull a few Daylillies out for the auction and will go through the attic.

MMAJW, if you are all in agreement, I'd love to make and sell food and drinks at your event. I'm a newbie here so please tell me what you all would like to see for food. Also, can you find out for me what type of facilities we may have access to (for example, a grill/stove, refrigerator, power, etc.) Then we can plan a palate-pleasing, seasonally appropriate menu.
