Funny story about Ginger and the Polish.

I have an easter egger, FatOne, that is in L.O.V.E. with my turken rooster. I don't know what she's doing but she'll crawl underneath him (he's tall) and hang out between his legs and preen him. It's sick to watch but hilarious. Though she's been broody now for about 8 weeks - I promised her that next time I'll give her an egg to hatch but she still won't give up. She could hatch an Emu! She's spent many days on multiple occasions in a wire cage in my basement, only to return immediately to her empty nest when she's placed back in the coop. I don't know what to do with her. My boyfriend says it's time to get her a chick, but I don't think anyone's hatching right now. Anyone have chicks of any type of (legal) fowl?

And your thoughts are very nice to hear, thank you. Did the one end up being a covert rooster?

No, to my knowledge she is a she, Mary Ann. I let our Standard EE mixed with Scooter our B. Cochin sit on her eggs. 3 of them, she should come out with chicks soon. I do have fertile Millie eggs, both of the girls are laying, that is all I can offer.

I just started a thread for the augusta 2 days event at TSC on sept 10th and 11th.
sept 10th will be for all animals "out there with animals"
and sept 11th will be a poultry swap and poultry are welcome on both days.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=7309047#p7309047

and just as a heads up, there is a poultry show in oct at the windsor fairgrounds usually with a swap as well- lots of nice quality birds for end of season sales.

Glad she's a she. You had me worried for a bit about my ability to tell boys from girls.

I went and picked up 2 ducklings yesterday for FatOne. Someone very nice on here offered me chicken eggs that were about to hatch last week and I guess I should have done that because while FatOne loved the ducklings, they did not exactly like or tolerate her. She freaked out for their safety and kept trying to get them to go under her, they'd run away, so then she'd peck at them like a mom does. Which made them freak out even more, and boy are they fast when freaked out. I had to separate them this morning because I knew I'd come home to a bloody mess. And now FatOne is back out there in a nesting box. So now I've compounded my problem. I've never raised ducks before and let me just say, so far I'm impressed with the cute, but not so much with the vibrating into the water dish making an insane mess. They didn't even sleep next to her last night, so I'm assuming they don't need a heat lamp (the woman I got them from had them in a cage outside anyway).

So bummed. After last months wilton swap, hubby doesnt sound too optimistic about us going this weekend. Im hoping maybe augusta as I have some 1/2 pedigreed mini rabbits and looots of soaps to sell!

You GO Stano!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like your summer has been very successful and I'm really glad of it, you have worked hard, supported so many of us by attending our events. To be honest, most events in the fall are everyone's "cull" birds and those are mostly cockerels and everyone is looking for ready to lay pullets, and no longer wanted rabbits etc as now they need to find winter care. Through the years of Oxfords events August seems to be the last hoorah of the year. Next few months are Fairs and a lot of those will sell birds & rabbits.
Keep in mind that if you want to set up a table and most TSC's or plan on a care day for your rabbits or explain what makes your soaps special, they will encourage folks to join in. I do a Poultry Care Clinic and there may be 5-10 people show up, but even if you help one, then you have given the community a hand.

So don't just wait for a "farm day" "chicken swap, stock or event", make one and get your name out there, business cards, free samples and when its free, folks will love you for it and become customers through out the the year/especially holidays!

Thanks Spook! I'm thinking next season I was going to do just that! Be more involved with swaps at my 2 "local" stores and perhaps do a Rabbit care clinic teaching those propper care and diet of rabbits and maybe clipping nails? Breaks my heart to see the little buggers with untrimmed nails lol.
I was thinking of doing something about herbs too...just don't know if there would be enough of a demand...

By next season, I will have a 5, 3 and 1 year old...A little easier than having a newborn!

Yes, kids can alter what and where we go, I'm impressed that you can be so involved with your animals and herbs with your hands full! You know, the first "herb" event may have 1 person show up. But that is one more person that is educated on what can improve their health, and where to find it. That one person will tell 5 friends, they will come...word of mouth advertises! I believe that education, or even creating a person to question why so they go on further to learn, you are doing a good deed.

Oh, and BTW, I am looking for pet quality Polish hen/pullet(s). I have 2 cockerels so if anyone needs a pet quality fella, we have a blue and splash available. I cannot say how much I adore these 2 guys!
