Maine

Here you go, MEMama and SCG. It's kind of hard to tell that's a human, but it's me! I have photos because of course hubby was watching from the warmth of the kitchen laughing and snapping photos!

Thanks Jazor. The only thing I can think of that would be worse than the frigid weather we've been having lately would be: Brooding chicks inside with no sign of warm weather in sight! I'll wait until April! Enjoy! What are you getting? I'm going to get my Doms, perhaps try BLRW and RCB leghorns.

So far it's quite an order, we've got the following breeds listed:

Barred Rock
Blue Cochins
Black Australorps
Buff Brahmas
Buff Cochins
Buff Orpingtons
Buff Rocks
Golden Wyandottes
Red Stars
Rhode Island Reds

Of course it's 2 of these, 4 of these, 2 of these. Etc..

Nice mix. I would be interested in ordering but I too will wait until warmer weather to do so. Longhorn in Buxton should be getting ready to accept orders soon. They offer a good selection of breeds from Cackle and will even take special orders. Plus they have some 12 week old Red Comets due in in March for $10 ea. I am leaning towards getting three or four of those to get a jump start on egg production.

Thank goodness for 4WD. There was no way I was going to get out of my iceway this morning without it. A snow flurry had dropped enough snow on the ground to make the iceway great for anyone who loves the luge or bobsled. My driveway slopes down away from the road so getting out is often fun. To make it more interesting I have a gate (actually a rope with a no trespassing sign attached) that I have to deal with when I go in or out. I could get within five feet of the rope but when I put the truck in park it would just slide back down the hill. I had to work my way on foot up the slope and undo the rope. Then I had to try and get across the ten feet to the other side to get the rope out of the way. I just skated (slid) back to the truck and inched my way to the end of the driveway. I did not bother to close the gate. The no trespassing sign is still visible and attached to one of the t-posts. If anyone decides to come knock on the door they will not be met with a smile. Nor will I assist them in getting back up the hill. Ignore my sign then be prepared to pay the piper.

I did see plenty of sand at Lowes and thought about getting two or three bags. But with the rain due for tomorrow I figured it would be futile to throw sand down. Why bother when it will just be washed away.

And two of the turkeys thought about making the trip to Lowes. They did not want to get out of the bed of the truck.

Lol, I can just picture the turkeys shaking their heads with a 'I'm not trying to sled today!' expression! Con (the 6 week old silkie that is recovering from frozen feet) was enjoying sunshine through the door the other day but his feet were really hot. I'd already given him his saltwater soak in the morning so I thought since the weather was warm out and the porch still cool he might like to feel it on his feet. Nope! Funny how he doesn't hardly stand up or walk when dh is home but the bugger wobbled pretty darn fast to get back onto my hand for a ride into the house:)

I've got a silkie with what appears to be a foot issue as well...she's been inside over a month now. Living in a rabbit cage and basically getting the royal treatment. Smart little bugger probably hops around all day then when I come home it's back to holding one foot in the air and looking helpless...

You just made my day! That could totally be me. I spent today trying to figure out how to scale the fence without knocking it down. Moot point though. Even if I get in, how will I get the snowblower in? Lol
