Maine

I live in southern Maine right off Rt 5 and this road has been horrendous this year! I have to be to work by 6 am and its barely plowed the whole length of it if at all . I'm sorry to start a rant but another white knuckle drive this Friday morning. Arghhhh.... Anyway the good thing I wanted to say. I ordered seeds from Johnny's yesterday morning. They came today. Wow that's amazing to me!

I agree I drive from Newfield to Portland and Rt 202/4/5 have been horrible!

Does anyone else's chickens NOT want to go out in the snow? (not that I blame them) Mine refuse, I had one that braved it only to stay frozen in the spot she flew into :th I had to carry her back in. I'm wondering if the blanket of white throws off their depth perception or something...

@87jmchugh Saw this on craigslist. Not sure where in Maine you're located or how far you're willing to drive, but this guy sells non-hatchery birds. http://nh.craigslist.org/grd/4330418176.html

Just checked his post. He may have nice looking chicks, but is uninformed about his Dominique genetics. Saying that a Dom roo will produce a sex linked chick. Not so. A NON BARRED roo over a barred female will produce a sex linked chick.

I went out to give my girls some fresh water, this afternoon, and they were all inside, but I saw some tracks from one bird. The tracks went down the ramp, made one loop around and right back up the ramp. It was pretty funny! Other times, when I first let them out in the morning, they like to try and fly over the snow. That's funny to watch, too!

Welcome to all the newbs! :)

Ash - I love the speckled eggs. I used to have an easter egger who laid brown speckled ones. So lovely.

I am so tired of snow and now ice. I need a pair of gators. Every time i slog down to the coop I get boots full of snow.

Our big valentines day news is that we adopted another rescue pup! her name is Penny and she is a 13 week old redbone/bloodhound/lab mutt from NC.
House training in this weather is not a fun thing!

I ordered wrong! I placed my chick order, and before thoroughly thinking about the genetic possibilities and looking at the charts, I ordered GLW, when I should have ordered SLW. The company is sold out of SLW this spring for my delivery date of 4/7. So, here's my question: Is any one in Central Maine planning to order chicks, and if so, would you be interested in adding a couple of SLW pullets to your order for me. If so, please PM me. It would have to be within 2 weeks either side of 4/7... Or does any one have SLW eggs available? (that would be even more fun!!!) You know you've got the bug bad when your dreams are cluttered with little fuzzy butts.

Alright.... so my RO are happy enough with the snow but I am not. I need more pictures of eggs and chicks and seeds sprouting. I got out the bator yesterday and am closing up some of the gaps in my orders to be filled and in the ones I am making. In fear of power outage I set up buckets in the kitchen with water last night. I moved one just wrong this morning so now I am gimping around. Its good that everyone who needed me to feed and water them was done first.
