Well, I took a plunge! Chewbacca (my silkie) went broody again. This time, I ordered some silkie hatching eggs a few days ago, and they should be arriving today! Assuming all goes according to plan, I'll have my first round of chicks before long! Should I provide the chicks with their own waterer? And what can I do to keep the other chickens out of it? Same with their food. Or should I try to build a completely separate enclosure for Chewie and her brood? I could probably find a sort of doghouse and put up fencing around it, but if I don't need to, I'd rather not.
I hope to get some show-quality birds out of this clutch... I'd love to try and get into the showing world. I had a beautiful silkie I was going to try showing when she got older, but I lost her this winter.
But these silkie eggs come from good lines, so I'm hopeful! If all ends well, I may even try to get into the breeding world... but we'll see!
I'll end with a pic of Benedict looking as handsome as he can.
