Hubby and I were at Sprague's Nursery this morning. I looked up just in time to see a couple of fuzzy butt SLW trucking down a path between the tables of plants! Such an unexpected delight among all the flowers!!

Oh cool!! I'll have to stop by just to see if I can see their chickens. I'm all set on plants and flowers. Met someone at the Chicken Swap on Sunday, at the Bangor TSC who raises SLWs, if we need some, next year, LG.

I think the birds actually belong at the house next door, but free range at Spragues. There's an egg sign up. I bought some more aromatics to dry for the next boxes. I have: lemon balm, lemon verbena, russian sage, regular sage, bee balm, citronella, mint, and will be adding in the viney stuff that grows in my lawn... purple flowers, scalloped leaves. Also adding dried lemon and orange peel.

Nice that so many of you live in the same "neighborhood" I wish it was so for me here in Winterport!!! This is the first day for me of a much anticipated break from work. Hubby back to work after surgery, so, I get to stay home and play catch up, getting kids back on track with a bit of discipline and scheduling in their lives. Getting house and garden back in order. Perhaps, this week, I'll put the axe to use. All of my brown eggs are fertile now. Haven't checked the blue ones. The only roos tid-bitting the girls are the honking big meat birds. The smaller ones are being teenage jerks. For that matter, so are the big ones... they tid bit but don't offer any morsels! I only got one egg yesterday. Checking for hidden nests. Some days, i get 4/4 of those who are laying.

The roos are being esp mean this year, for some reason. My 3 (esp 2 of them) are defeathering the (12) hens at an unusual rate. Also, the blue and the black "tag team" the hens. While one mates, treading vigorously, the other aggressively pecks and pulls feathers from the front of the hen; then they change places (unless she escapes). I'm trying to set up to segregate the bad boys most of the time. The difficulty is having a predator safe night time space.

So we got our ducks today. My kids and I built them a new home in two days. Cost us about $15 for screws, hinges, and a latch. Our next coop to build will be for our sweet little Sultans. They will go in a coop in the garden.

Another hot day today! We recently found our selves a new farm cat! She was found in our wall! We toke her out and are now bottle feeding her. She is 7 days old today
