Maine

I'd love to have some guineas, but... hubby would not be amused. Nope. Not. Amused. At. All. The hawk is now making daily appearances to sit on the edge of the run and taunt me and the birds. I'm not amused... at all!

What if you got some assorted barnyard hatching eggs and I accidentally threw in some guinea eggs? They look pretty similar to a chicken egg and the chicks look like real chicks for a long while.

Are you going to be hatching any of the Guineas? IF so I'll try and sneak a couple in to my coop if you'd consider selling or trading for a few.

I hatch in December, usually. The guineas aren't laying then and frankly 9 guineas is more than enough dingbat racket for me. I'm only going to be hatching guineas if one manages to sneak away, undetected, for 26 days and manages to evade predators.

However, I'm willing to give eggs for anyone to incubate.

Went to TSC today to check out the duckling situation. They don't have ducks (or bantams or meat birds)... yet, but plan on getting some soon. They're either getting khaki campbell, pekins or rouens.

If they get pekins, does anyone want to split a duckling order with me? The min is 6 and you can't buy 4 chicks and 2 ducklings

Edited to add... if you're on the fence:

Ducks are some of the most ridiculously adorable and happiest creatures on the planet. And they're slug-suckers. You don't have a slug infestation, you have a duck deficiency.

What kind of birds do all of you have?
Myself I have 8 Tractor Supply Co./ Hoover Hatchery Americana's. Yeah I know they're Easter Eggers. I'm happy with them since I do have a good mix and it's looking more and more like I only have 2 or 3 roosters out of the bunch. Still way too early to tell but if the one's I suspect are roosters are indeed roosters will be very striking in coloration. I also have the smallest of the bunch that should grow into a nice blue coloring and except for yellow soles to it's feet is very close to Americauna Standard.
I love Barnyard mixes anyway but I would like to have a few Pure Breeds both to preserve that breed as well as maybe breed in some of those breeds traits into my mongrel horde.
I'm very interested in the Americauna and Araucana Breeds along with Barnvelders, Buckeye's, and Maran's. What I want to do is acquire AMericauna's of the rarest standard color and let my daughter grow up raising and breeding this unique breed for it's preservation. Pretentious I know but it's a goal as soon as I can afford to buy some.

I have barnyard mix, breeding for small combs, colorful egg basket, non feathered feet. Getting about 50% olive/green/blue eggs. Have an order of chicks coming that include: EE, PBR, BE, Doms, BA, Columbian and SLW. Also hatching some of my own. Doing a continuation of my gender selection experiment.

I currently have 3 barred rocks, 1 golden wyandote, 2 jersey giants, 1 barnyard mutt bantam from the farm down the road, and 1 RIR rooster. I am really hoping my broody goes broody again this spring and I can set some of my own flock's fertile eggs under her. I would love some green/blue egg layers, though. Hmm.

I think your goal of breeding for preservation is wonderful! It's great you are getting your daughter involved, too.

Just got back from Tractor Supply and bought 6 Australorps to go with my 8 EE's. I want to breed in the dark legs with small combs. Either way next year when I hatch some eggs I should wind up with some Olive eggers. Glad I finally got a decent flock after almost 25 years without. I do want a few GUinea's and maybe a couple of ducks but rather buy those locally instead of from breeders. Anyone around here with Guineas or Ducks? IF so if I wind up with a lot of roosters maybe could trade with anyone interested.

I have a mixed flock of guineas that you're welcome to eggs. No refunds.

I have pekin ducks but all girls. Need some boys.
