Maine

Hey guys! I'm a Mainer, I prefer not say my town... But if you don't mind, I'd like to join. :) It is nice seeing everybody who is in Maine, glad we're not the forgotten state!!

How is everybody's crops this year? Or is that topic declared over... Don't mind me, had to go through many pages to get here!

Congrats on the chickies.

Thanks LG! Unfortunately I lost 1. Its belly hadn't closed up and I found it under the hen. I also found another chick partially hatched. ☹️ I've got 2 pipping. Hopefully we'll have 2 more tomorrow.

Welcome Angry Hen. Lots of great people on this thread!! They've been very helpful to me over the years!!!

Hey guys,

Thank you both for the warm welcome!
I think I will enjoy this thread already. :)

I am glad to hear you are doing good with your garden,
My tomatoes are great... But the potato plants are wilting.

I think we are having a small drought. Cucumbers are great though!!

We just harvested a mid-season variety of potato (Adirondack Red), they died back completely a week or so ago and we harvested this weekend. That's the harvest-me signal. We left them in a bit to cure.

Another, late-season variety, planted in the barrel next to them, is still going.

It's taken a LOT of spraying to keep our punkin's alive, squash bugs are a difficult sort. Tons of fruit set, hope it all gets to ripen.

Potato plants tend to die back this time of year. It shouldn't affect your harvest, as long as you had good healthy plants earlier.

Yes, as younger plants they were very healthy. I actually harvested some potatoes yesterday evening, surprisingly great batch! I think you are right. :)
 i never got my potatoes in the ground
but my pumpkins are flowering (finally!)
my 5yo planted the pumpkins

Sorry to hear you didn't plant the potatoes, that's okay though.
That's awesome! Good experience for you 5y year old, and great to hear they are flowering!! :D

I harvested my first complete hill last week. It was an accidental hill. (volunteer that sprouted from a missed spud last season.) It produced an amazing crop, given that it was in the path way of my BTE. Love those volunteers. My 10 y.o. GD has been enjoying putting together foil veggie packets for the grill. She's getting pretty good at prepping all of the veggies and seasoning them. My 16 y.o. GS grilled the veggies for our lunch today. Fed the 3 of us, plus 2 neighbors. BTW, my spuds were Adirondack Red. I do believe it's my favorite variety. I have 2 other varieties going in the garden, as well as a hay bale garden of spuds and sweet potatoes. Can't wait to see how the HB does. Those plants are looking awesome, and not a single insect pest to be seen... except for the occasional Jap beetle on the sweets.

My yard long beans are finally blooming. Those blossoms are massive. Any readers have experience growing them???? Opinions re: quality and flavor of beans?

The little one laying down in the first pic & the yellow one behind mama were the last 2 to hatch.
