Maine

I have a unit like the one being offered, if I had not just bought this last yr. I'd buy this one, so close to me anyway. and SCG, you don't have keep everything you hatch, I hatch and sell them off and only a handful I end up keeping. I have a few smaller units as well so based on how many I'm hatching, depends on which unit I use.

I don't really have anything too desirable for selling. I cross pretty much anything although I do have some pure speckled sussex that are about 2 months old now that I intend to breed true. That's a long way down the pike and I will also continue to breed strange things just because I can.

cross posted from the chickenstock thread)
I am starting a rumour. Augusta swaps may start in late march if the weather holds. plans will firm up in 2 weeks once we see if we are still warming or not.

also (and this is not a rumour) I am selling ads for the central maine bird fanciers premium book (show is at the windsor fair grounds on sunday may 27th)
if anyone is interested in taking out an ad ($10 for business card size) or if you want to give a cash prize for one of the classes or the general awards fund. please contact me if interested. we have both open and junior classes. this will be an all cash awarde show for the open and trophies/ ribbons and cash if donated, for the junior classes.

OH that has turned into a dream of mine! I just started with ducks last year. Hatched two, bought two now 18 are due to hatch mid-march. I'm really getting into this! I would LOVE to run (or atleast work in) an East coast "Metzer Farms". If the hubby would allow it and sales were profitable (or atleast break-even!) I would be in heaven building an small hatchery here in Maine. I can see it now! An incubation room, a nursery/brooder room, an office area, a sales and shipping room.....Ohhhhh, dare to dream! lol.
Build it, and we will come! :D

Hoppy- you should buy the large one!

Then sell me one of your small ones!

just got that same email- came back to update sold
anna- I HAVE a large one already, bought it last yr. but if all goes well, the central maine bird fanciers may have a new one to raffle off.
I have a 3 egger, a 24 egger and the large 300 egg one, just depends on what I'm hatching depends which one I fire up.

Just got an email saying the Sportsman, etc are sold :(

I think I would like to get one that does around 24. That sounds like a decent way to start out.

I am still so on the fence about ordering some hatchery birds. I would really like to add a couple of nice, big birds to our flock. I have always liked cochins, and recently started eyeing jersey giants. I read that the hatchery birds, jerseys in particular, arent usually as big as others and I have a cochin roo who is a hatchery bird that I think it beautiful, but his leg feathering stinks. I have seen cochins around, but have yet to find anyone in Maine offering Jerseys. The one lead I did have on Jerseys here in Maine didnt pan out....So I still dont know what to do!

Order eggs from someone reliable on here. You can have a somewhat decent hatch rate on shipped eggs. You will need a plan for your extra roosters, though.

I have the Brinsea Octagon Eco 20 with the autoturner. Fits approximately 24 eggs. Does a good job. Allows me to fill it up but not go too overboard.

Have you considered Orpingtons ? I decided to add a Buff Orpington to my flock last year, and she is HUGE ! She's a gentle giant. I'm thinking about adding a couple more.
