My one hen has disappeared. I didn't see her last night when I did my final check on the horses and no signs of her today. No egg in her usual spot. No stray feathers or signs of blood. All the other birds were present and accounted for though. She has never showed signs of broodiness so I don't think she is hiding out somewhere either.

Thank you so much! I need them for his birthday party on the 25th, so that won't work out. Fortunately, hoppy is very close to where I live and sounds like that will work out. Again, thank you for the help :)

Whoops, this was supposed to be directed to chemical girl. This website makes me feel very computer illiterate. To Hoppy; I will be contacting you tonight!

My son would not believe me that it was "Pi" day - which had to do with math. He insisted I was trying to get out of making pie for "pie" day.
I made him a pie, because it was pretty funny.
Today is the ides of March...

Still waiting to hear if she can hatch some chicks out for the kids. Amazing the red tape that one has to go through to do anything these days.

I'm still wondering how I made it all the way through high school without a cell phone, Ipod, computer, calculator and internet. And we had actual chalk boards. No phones in the classroom. If someone needed to get in touch with you they had to call the school and leave a message. Not to mention we went five full days a week. No idiotic half day or teacher in service days. No wonder it seems that we actually learned more back then. No distractions. Sorry. There are just days I am amazed at how little students seem to be taught these days.
A co-worker's wife works for the Windham school department and is thinking about hatching out some eggs for the kids. She has done this in the past and met with great success. I have offered her my incubator to use but I don't have any fertile eggs for her to hatch. So does anyone have any eggs available for her? Breed not important. Mutts certainly welcome. I am just waiting to hear back if the school will even let her do this. It has never been an issue but who knows with the way rules change.

Fox. Hope it chokes on my hen. The psycho rooster disappeared today too. At least his demise is a welcome one. No predators all winter and now they show up. The snow and ice aren't quite gone around the coop and pen so I can't reinforce the defenses yet. Maybe this weekend I get at least get something temporary set up to prevent further attacks.

I hope she turns up!

Oh no! Sorry to hear about your hen :(
I'm in the beginning stages of blueprinting my coop. I was planning on burying the wire around 12 inches deep... Do you think that's enough based on your experience?
