Maine

I will have some blr at the swaps but I will hold off until they are older. they are not very pretty when they are little, about 8 weeks, they have better lacing showing. I need to keep back a new roo and some replacement hens and I'm pretty picky about what I keep. so the ones I sell will be be pretty but might not be what I want to keep for my show flock. I'm also limited on space for winter so 12 is about max for large fowl that I keep over winter.

Your birds are always so gorgeous, how can I not be jealous ?

If you do have any Marans that you would sell, please keep me in mind. I've been looking for some since I started with chickens. Are you going to be bringing any to the upcoming swap ? (The BLRW's)

rosecombis a dominate gene. being that they are a cross, they have only one gene so it's easy to get the single comb. you can even breed 2 rosecombs together and get straight combs. just select for those.
if you are not showing, i like rosecombs- less frost bite in the winter.

I prefer the rose comb as well, was just wondering if someone wanted to take this project to the standard for the nn. My roos lost a bit of their combs this winter, especially my coro sussex and cream legbar roos.

I wanted to share a pic of my Hedemora roo with you guys. I was telling someone that he is soft feathered like a silkie, but not quite. He looks like he has hair, and no one believes me. The pic is not great because I used my phone but lets see how it looks on here....he doesn't have a name yet and after seeing the pic I think I might call him Fabio

I think my EE hen is broody.
I have some Ancona duck eggs that are fertilized that I will save, but wonder if anyone has any fertilized eggs I could purchase/trade to set under her.
They could be chicken, duck, or whatever really.

Also, any tips. This is my first broody. I suppose I shouldn't wait too long to toss eggs under her, but I am sure I should wait a few days to make sure she sticks at it.
Oh, this is so exciting!

I'm starting a flock of large fowl cochins. My bantam cochins and d'uccle don't sell well at swaps, so this is my next project.

I just put the LF cochin chicks (and their bantam & d'uccles buddies) out in the barn. The LFs are white, blue and black.

I have another incubator running with more LF, so I may have some to sell at the swaps.

I think Fabio is a perfect name!

He's astonishing.

this breed did quite well this winter, while my coro sussex roo lost most of his points on his comb to frostbite, this guy didnt' even have any issues. They are pretty passive and I really like them. I have read that they are pretty delicate though, I haven't hatched any yet so I don't know how fragile the chicks are

he's interesting, and I do love the name fabio!!

spent the day putting chicks outside to enjoy the sunshine and cleaned cages, moved chicks around and at the end of the day, brought them all back inside. I'll be glad when they can stay out. sorted chicks that I'm bringing to the swap next week or at least, decided who is NOT going yet. so is anyone looking for blue laced red wyandotte cockerals? I will have about 3 to sell and all appear to be the black version of BLR. ended up with just 1 splash, thankfully that is pullet. no pullets available yet. maybe at 12 weeks I'll decide to part with some but for now, they stay.
