The answer: Too far, too long and not enough for emus.

I'm awesome, but I'm not that awesome. There's plenty of awesome chicks (pun intended) in the state of Maine without chickens, turkeys, ducks, cats AND emus that all need pens, boxes and brooders built.

I am thinking about bringing my 3 mystery hens (the rescues) to one of the swaps. I have no idea how old they are or what breeds they consist of, but they are very docile and sweet. I just need some room in the chicken coop. I'm pretty sure all three are laying, (2 for sure) but their feathers STILL don't look very nice. I have tried BOSS and a higher protein diet, but they still look pretty bad. Any ideas on what I can do to help them ? All of my other girls look great ! The people we got them from also debeaked them w/ dog clippers, but thankfully their beaks are growing back. Some people.

Wow. I have a blue Marans/Wyandotte cross. She is very blue, no lacing. I want to breed her just to see what colors her babies will be. Klf73, would any of her chicks be blue like her ?

it also depends if both parents were blue? I am not sure if you were saying it is a blue girl that is from a blue marans and a blue wyandotte. if so, then the chart hoppy posted will work but if you used any sort of copper or cuckoo marans or laced wyandotte it really can be a crap shoot on what the offspring would be, there are quite a lot of possibilites...

Nothings going to make those feathers look nice until they molt. But keep feeding them BOSS and high protein, they more than likely need it.

I had to clip my first beak (with cat claw clippers) the other day, on my crossbeak chick. I felt bad doing it, but didn't hit the quick and it needed to be done.

So I was wrong about the date of my eggs, they are actually due tomorrow to hatch, they are all developed with the last stage before they hatch! I cant wait!

!!! Also I just got 8 cochin bantams from Joanie-maine and 4 of them are now broody and are all trying to nest the same layer box!! I tried everything because I love that they are broody just not that they are all fighting over the space, I have nesting boxes that are too small fro them anyways, and there are 3 hens in there and 1 with her head sticking in!!! OMG!!!

That's what I thought.

I can understand clipping the beak to help the bird, but these people did it because they said all chickens NEED to be debeaked. I've never done it and never will. I hope these 3 will molt. It's like us having a permanent bad hair day.
