Clover thanks for giving Lillian a new home. Was surprised to see a silkie stand up to her in every way. Lets hope the rest of the day goes as smooth.
Grey Roo,
Lillian does have a "want to be in charge" personality. However, Big Momma - our LF Cochin/Wyndotte cross has put her in her place as well as our bantam hen "Sassy". So I think she is falling in line nicely. A little postering but all went smoothly.
She is snuggled up between our 2 RI Red sex linked crosses on the roost. I think she will be fine.

Winston is a great name and a lovely roo. I cant wait to get some Wyandottes next year. And speaking of bullies, can someone re-post the link where I can buy the pinless peepers? I dont need a lot, just about 5 of them and I know only a couple places sell them in small batches. I think I will be needing them in the winter when these girls are more confined.

Thanks!!

and here is a bonus pick of Lucy (in the front) and Enid (in the back) Lucy is a 10 week old partridge rock. These little girls are so friendly. I can really see the difference buying from a local small breeder and a bigger breeder. the girls from the small outfit are so much nicer and used to being handled.

hey everyone! Long time, no see!

I feel like I have missed out on a ton of stuff, but things got crazy here pretty fast

I swear I had kids going in every direction for a little while there- they were traveling to see family out of state, go on summer trips with friends, our family camping trip....it was nuts! unfortunately it all ended on a sour note when we lost our 12 year old shepherd, Gala, last weekend (not like yesterday last weekend, the one before) and I decreed enough was enough and everyone had better stop moving for a few days. Gala was my baby, I had her longer than most of my kids and my husband and she and I had been through an awful lot together. There were many dark and lonely nights that I didnt think I would make it through, but she sat with me through them....But she went peacefully and surrounded by love, so I couldnt ask for anything more for her.

And now I am back and life has a funny way of moving forward.

I have slimmed my flock down to a mere 24 birds. 4 of which are roosters....and only 1 of the other 20 has deemed us worthy of eggs so far! I want to worm them, but dont want to by enough wormer for a million and 4 birds, which seems to be the only quantity in which you can buy it. I was wondering if anyone here was interested in splitting an order with me? We could probably even do more than 2 of us and still have enough for multiple doses really. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you are interested!

Oh Yeah! And Widget, if you still have that tank and want to get rid of it, I have a lizard that I am sure would love an upgrade

So nice to hear a happy ending for Lillian, glad she found a new home, and that was probably the answer. She was dominant in one flock, but when she went to another and had to face other dominants, she has backed down, and will find her place. Who says chickens don't have personality?

Do they really need to be wormed? Do you range or are they strictly in pen and coop? Have never wormed a bird ever, we've had up to 70 or more, never had an issue, never wormed anybody, ever, even our dogs. Took samples to holistic vet and he said no need and they are healthy at 7 1/2 and 51/2. Sorry to hear about the loss of your pup, it's always hard. Have buried 3 indoor cats in 8 years, but they were up there in age almost 20. It is a heartbreaker. Glad she went out peacefully, so much better than a horrible accident, yes? At least you have that, and can pat yourself on the back for giving her a long and loving life.

For the first time this morning in a while I had a few minutes to just stand still and watch. The new chicks and momma were sweet darting in and out of the large ruffled leaves of a volunteer pumpkin growing right beside the coop door much as human kids do with a sprinkler. The turkey peeped and chortled from the barn door, briefly hailing, "King of the Mountain." Spider webs caught the light coming through the trees edging the field across the street, bowing in a breeze, shining like shooting stars in the taller grass. "Quick!" I yelled suddenly to all the feathered creatures, "Someone! Act like your dying!"

Okay, seriously... question: what does it mean to "condition" your chicken? I know it isn't printed between "rinse and repeat" because I've looked there.
