Is there a free roosters thread? I could supply the whole state of maine with them right now!! I have a buff silkie roo, well, four actually, and a light brahma roo, and a couple blue ameracuna/EE roo's, and a brown red ameracuna/ee roo and a few cuckoo easter egger roo's and about a dozen more.....we will be eating them,but if anyone is interested some of these guys are awesome, and I would love to find them homes!

LOL, yes they are geniuses, so funny that they found the escape route. Guess you will have to expand, too bad. A $5 hen turns into a $50 hen in no time! As far as eggs, had some hens that laid at 16 weeks, but one was RIRed and the others Red Star sex links. Their wattles get brilliant red right before, so you will know. Could be any day or any week, but probably more like weeks. 20-22-24 weeks is the norm, so you're close! And a good time of year for them to start, maybe they'll get in the routine and give you some throughout the winter.

also, anyone want some chicks? my broody hedemora hatched some eggs and out of the 9 babies, 4 are mixes and I don't want to grow them out as I don't want any mutt cockerals and have enough laying hens. They are all black but will probably have red leakage. Dad is my avatar and mom is either brahma or swedish flower hen...they aren't with mom as I wasn't confindent in her ability to rear the chicks...

I have been culling bantam cochin cockerels like mad, still have five or six who will go to the BIG CHICKEN HOUSE IN THE SKY

I have found that hauling bantams to swaps is hardly worth it.....especially cockerels.

I'm growing out pullets in black, partridge, red and buff.

To add type, I have a black pullet and a frizzled black mottled cockerel coming from Indiana.

There is something about my washer that animals can't resist. A few weeks ago the cat decided to jump in it as I was putting laundry in. Today one of the young turkeys (who had escaped from the brooder) jumped in right when I turned the water on. On the plus side it made it really easy to catch him and put him back where he belonged.

Krista - guess who started crowing yesterday! So far he has been getting along great with our buff boy Spartacus, so hooray!! He was mad at me tonight, did NOT want to go back into the coop at bedtime just now!

I'm so sorry about your dog Anna. It's never easy losing a pet, especially when they've been in your life so long.

Widget, too funny about the turkey and cat!

Can't wait until we get some more eggs. As of right now Snowball is the only one laying, but Daisy squats when you pet her now, so it should be soon! Strangely though, her sister Lily isn't anywhere near ready to lay!

I use 2 options, cull here or craigslist. depends on if you want to take a chance of someone using your bloodlines for pet birds.

I have this cat you need to catsit for. She's very stinky. Please return her clean. Would appreciate some softener, too.
