Maine

I still have these six Old English Black Breasted roosters living on my screened porch. Please help me with some suggestions on where I can find homes for these boys. I have them on freecycle, craigs list...are there any poultry exchanges in Southern Maine coming up? Is that a good way to find homes? How does it work, do I have to register etc?

If anyone knows anyone looking for OEBB bantams, please let me know. These boys are very sweet, and so far are getting along great. I don't want to push it though, and I am not set up for so many chickens.

Thank you!!

I'm off to the fair, jr showmanship is at 1:00pm today and there will be birds for sale. bring your carrier but most should have boxes with them.

Thanks everyone so much for all the offerings of Silkie Roosters! Even one showgirl--which I really really wanted..but the Hubs just is not ready for the showgirl breed! lol! I was so worried I would not be able to find one for a while but am so glad I was able to. This is why I love the backyard forum...

the update for what is left for sale birds, several pairs of call ducks, paint silkie, game pullets, buff orp roo, black rosecomb roo and I know I forgetting someone. there might be some more old english wheaton pairs for sale, not sure if they all got sold or not.

Just to let you all know, did half listerine and half water, sprayed the dogs, rubbed it in well. This am, only a flea or two, and they were loaded! Also sprayed bedding and anywhere they sleep, rugs, etc., and the firewood I've brought in so far (figure that's where they came from). It's a little sticky, but a quick brushing got rid of it. They smell pretty good too, used the mint flavor LOL. So, apparently, it works! A lot cheaper than the spot junk too. And they tolerated it quite well, no problem...

Oh yikes widget! I haven't seen fox in our yard yet, but our neighbor has seen them coming closer to the property. Ugh. Skunks are back too, which we haven't had a problem with in ages. For once, I am actually looking forward to the cold weather!

What are you all doing for flies? They're not unbearable, but getting gross for sure! Mostly just in the coop, not really a deal in the run since its still reasonably grassy.

That's a great idea ducklucky! I'd never heard of it for fleas, but did see its suggested for either mosquitoes or ticks. Can't remember which right now.

Fox was back at midnight last night. I could hear it yipping in the woods behind the coop. I got up and turned on the flood light that is on the same side of the house as the coop. That and the full moon gave me a great view of the area. The fox came around the side of the coop and looked for a way in before moving across the yard towards the front of the house. I was on the porch along with the muscovy (that's where he hangs out at night) and as soon as the fox got close to my car (about 20 ft away from where I was) I banged a feed scoop on the metal trash can. The fox took off into the woods at high speed. Everyone was safe and sound this morning so hopefully the fox will get the message that the buffet is closed.
