The Midget Whites I picked up at a swap this year. There are a couple hatcheries that sell them too. I've also tried hatching out some eggs but never had any luck with that route.

McMurray Hatchery is still shipping some day olds, and they also have some started pullets available (saw they have black stars and reds, very early and good layers), if you want to go that route. Delivered right to your local post office to save you on gas!

Anyone interested in taking on some ducks? I have some Indian Runners and I believe Cayugas that I would like to re-home before winter. Without running out to the pen to see the exact ratio I believe there are two or three drakes to five or so ducks. They are hatchery stock but are great egg layers starting in the spring into summer. Would take $30 for all of them.

So I have been thinking about trading in my Saturn VUE for a truck. Not because I am independently wealthy and can afford to go from a car that gets 24 mpg to one that get 15 mpg but because I really need a vehicle that can haul stuff. And since there is no way I can afford a brand new one I have been looking at used. Only problem is that an older yet good used 4WD truck is worth more then my newer Saturn. Still I think it is a good idea. I am so tired of cleaning hay out of the Saturn. And it can only hold five bales at a time making it difficult to easily stock up on feed for the critters.

For the past two weeks I have been looking at a used 2003 Chevy Silverado. I have to say the dealership I have been dealing with is the most low pressure used car dealer on the planet. The truck had just come in so it hadn't been cleaned up yet. The salesman showed it to me and went over what they were planning on doing (rocker panels, tail gate latch, detail and other minor stuff). He called a couple days later to let me know they were working on it and that I could take it for a test drive in a couple days. So today I went down to see it and take it for a drive. It drives well. Really comfy seats. Plenty of room for the dogs. Heat and AC work great. Rocker panels are now solid and should last a few years. New battery. Tires look good. No power windows but that is one less part to break. No cruise control but while nice I rarely use it. Solid tonneau cover. Belts and other engine stuff look good. Only real issue I had is that the rear view mirror is small compared to the size of the truck. Not bad but just odd. But there is one more piece that they want to replace before selling. The speedometer was not acting right so they are replacing the whole instrument panel. Not unheard of in these trucks. Only thing is the new panel hasn't arrived and the old one wasn't in the dash so when I test drove today I had no gauges to go by. So if I had been stopped for speeding I honesty could have said "Why no officer I have no idea how fast I was going." It should be ready for another look Tuesday or Wednesday. Never have I taken so long to decide on a vehicle.

In the meantime if something else comes in the salesman will let me know. Right now they have a couple even older trucks that are well within my price range and several more new ones a couple thousand above what I want to spend. I like Chevys and this one has everything I need so we will see.

Good for you with the truck. I had a subaru forrester, which I did like a lot, but it needed $3500++ in work( head gaskets!) so it was time to move on. I had wanted a truck for the same reason you do- to haul things in! I thought it was my un lucky day because I had just quit my job, and my car died, but we ended up getting a great deal on toyota tacoma 4WD V6. I love it so much. I looked at a silverado, and a toyota tundra, and they were nice, but I decided we didn't need the full size- the tacoma is plenty big too. We ended up getting it at the wholesale dealership- it had very low miles for the year, and the reason it was in wholesale was because the tailgate was banged up- like I care about that!! I was glad the salesmen were very low pressure there too.
Good Luck with your search- try a tacoma if you get a chance!! I've had mine for almost a month and I am so very in love :)

They do have a Tacoma on the lot but it is $6000 above my budget.

. Why do cars have to be so expensive? My parents bought the house I grew up in for $12000 back in 1950. Now you can't buy a new car for anything close to that. Even a good used car is at least that much. If only I could win the lottery.

Now for another completely non chicken related question? Anyone on here familiar with life insurance claims? Especially one done several years after the policy holder has died and their estate settled.

Hey guys!
I have some chickens for sale! I have:

1 Silver Spangled Hamburg Hen
1 Ancona hen
2 Silver Duckwing yokohama's
1 Striped Mix Hen
3 Partridge wyandotte Bantam Hens
3 Black Breasted red old english bantam Pullets!

All of the hens are between 1 and 2 years, and the Old english are about 5-6 months!
They are $15.00 each or $150 for all, I also have laying boxes, cages, hutches, etc. for sale.
I do not get on here very often so if you are interested please email or call me at [email protected], or (207)-779-7710

I also have 2 fixed rabbits for sale, and a guinea pig.

Anyone else go to Shaw's today for their one day sale on Qulited Northern toilet paper and Brawny paper towels? I went at 11:30 and they were sold out of the paper towels. I went to customer service to see about a rain check. No go. It was a while supplies last sale. I was also told that people were lined up at the door at 7 to get in just for the paper towels. Great sale for those who have nothing better to do than get up at the crack of dawn and go to the store.

I sent an email to Shaw's to complain about it and the manager actually responded. He said that they really dropped the ball on this one and apologized. And as soon as they are restocked I am to come in and ask for him and he will make sure I get the sale price.

I had a dodge ram 1500 for 12 years, ran great until the day the engine died in a puff of smoke. body was still good. sold it and they replaced the engine, i still see it in my old neighborhood.
I have a chevy silverado now, it's ok, not quite the love that I had for the old truck. I bought this one used since it was so close to the new yr the dealer told me to wait to register it until after jan 1st (10 day plate expired 2 weeks prior to that so I parked it) and it was cheap to register. I always forget how much more it costs to register a new vehicle (more then a montly payment- ouch!)
check out the mini size trucks. I had a durango for a few yrs, didn't like the milage but for a truck (the dakota same but in a truck not suv) was better then a full size truck.

I had a Ford Ranger for a few years but needed a larger truck that could safely haul the horse trailer which is why I went with a Silverado a few years ago. Sold that one this past spring since it needed about $1500 worth of work to get a sticker. So while I like the smaller trucks I do need a full size one. Plus bigger truck means more space to carry chicken stuff. See chicken math even works for vehicles.
