That looks divine. You DO have a nice house. Wow.

Hoppy, are those birds really in your basement? Pooping and crowing and mating and ... in your basement?? Hmmm, not sure I am that dedicated yet. I would definitely need a different basement. These Favorelle babies are darling and I *am* worried about how to transition them into the winter environment but I am not sold on the idea of keeping them in the basement for months. I am sure if I want to add to my chores it could work. And if I didn't care what DH thought, or the land lord. What are those pens built out of to be able to stand on their own so well?

I routinely toss "chicks" out at 5-6 weeks of age. In February. In Maine. (I usually start hatching 1 January) They're resilient little guys. I take the heat off generally by about day 10, unless it's really cold. Feed 22% protein. The first day they're a bit scared and huddled, but they're fine after that.

Yes, I have heard I need silkies or asiatics or a muscovie... it just so HAPPENS that you sell silkies :) I don't need more birds that are 'special.' I have crested birds and that's enough. I don't want to worry about getting them wet or are they warm or..

NO MORE 'special needs' chickens. As it is the turkey Barry swapped for the Houdan is gimpy. IDK what the heck the deal is but one leg turns out so much the darn thing reminds me of a peg-leg pirate. She gets around and can run for food like everyone else, but its just so pathetic seeing her out there gimping. It makes it even harder for me to think about eating her. I realized I can't kill her. Chickens, yes, but this turkey has that neck and those big eyes, and she makes these little noises.... anyone want a turkey?? Trade me... trade me almost anything else and she is yours. Sweet, friendly, just... a turkey. My son is happier with the idea that she would 'live somewhere else' than be eaten here. Clearly, I haven't told him I can't put my boots on for that job. I need him to always believe I will. I need me to believe it too. So... any takers? lol

haven't been on much and have to deal with an issue. My neighbors are complaining again about the noise (and not to me, to the town) and we were told we needed to get rid of all the roosters. HAH! think not. We are legally allowed to have them, but I am going to downsize with so much going on in our life I want to simplify my chickens. I am going to focus on my jubilee, bantam choc and lf choc orps. With that said....
I am selling my cream legbars (a trio, and the girls look rough right now...also have 2 young pullets to go with them to offset the attentionn these girls are getting once old enough) , blue egg layers ALL WILL GO TOGETHER

trio of beautiful blue breda. I love how these birds move, they are so majestic. layers of white eggs, very reliable

trio of blue isbar, I also love how these guys look(their eyes remind me of a great white shark, big and black). they are a blue birchen in color and lay green eggs.

I can easily sell these on auction but rather them go local. I will take the best offer on each (let's be reasonable)

all of them are a year old (except the cream legbar pullets)

I also am getting rid of the Hedemora rooster that is my avatar, free

turkeys can have leg issues. I had one dislocate it's leg 2 weeks prior to meeting with the butcher. needless to say, it never made it to the butcher. this year I;m only raising one turkey. that is all that I will need.
and of course I sell silkies, everyone needs broodies....

(but you're safe, i only have unsexed chicks or a rooster for sale)

Speaking of silkies... Do they need special care in the winter? Or should I treat them just the same as the rest of my flock?

Krista, I'm sorry about the neighbors :(

ashandvine, sorry to hear about the turkey. Hope you can find her a nice home.

I wouldn't say no to another turkey if it is one of the heritage breeds. And I do have a soft spot for Silkies. Never had any issues with the winter weather when I had them. Foxes on the other hand.

But I do need to downsize in the duck department before I think of adding anything else. Too many males and not enough females. Two Saxony drakes and one Welsh Harlequin drake. All three gorgeous and under a year old. Just no girls for them.

helloooooo!

I just posted over in the family section, but really wanted to get some ideas from my fellow mainahs!

As lost of you know, we are moving into our new house this weekend! (YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!

) I am looking for some advice on introducing some herbs/scents etc that will help promote a calm positive energy in the house. I have read that lavender is good for that, but was wondering what else might help and the best way to use it in the house. What do you guys think? Any tips/advice you guys can offer would be appreciated!

so- there are a few things you can do, some things will bring in good/positive energy and some will expel the bad- Sweetgrass is good to burn for positive energy- it smells nice too. Palo Santo wood is supposed to be cleansing and should rid a space of negative energy- I believe sage is used for this too, but I like the way the Palo Santo smells better, it's a little more mellow. The basic idea of doing a smudge is to get the smoke into all of the rooms- in the corners, in the door ways etc- you can look it up online for a little more detail though!
Good luck on the move!

I think just the whole move away from the negative "neighbors" will be a big positive improvement.

so happy for you!!

Should I be trying to.... IDK splint it??

I told the kids you'd be at the show and maybe Barry too. My son is excited. I am relieved you have no pullets available. Makes NO easier.
