Question: Do any of you do the deep bedding method? I'm considering it for the winter- should I start now?

I do it. I just fill it back up when it looks a little low. I throw more shavings in. I toss some scratch inside once in a while and they stir it up for me. It never smells and is really nice and dry in there. I was surprised at how easy it is. I was scared it would be gross but I have never cleaned it out! I just clean out the nest boxes if they get yucky!

I suppose I'll give it a try. Anything to keep it warmer in there for the girls- and also I'm not sure how much I'll want to be out there cleaning on -20 days this winter. Cleaning the coop does not bother me, but being outside in below zero winds do.

if she does, that's a secret.

Crop bras... does Victoria still sell those?

I am finally done procrastinating today. in my attempt not to repaint a sign, i made brownies, I cleaned the house, i sort of did laundry,(still need to fold that) and then I finally got the sign underway. it's 90% done and drying. I feel good that it's done. tomorrow I have to start bathing chickens for the show so i don't want any other distractions.(oh, and I played an online game) finally wrote my self a big note: stop being distracted!!. I think it worked, at least I got going. I am looking forward to see as many of you that can make it to the show this sunday. weatherman is not calling for rain all day now, just late afternoon and by then the show should be done..

I'm sure there is something else i should be doing. oh yea, gotta go those veggies won't roast themselves.
I forgot to mention, the brownies were my own recipe so that took even more time.. now off to the garden.

Oh my goodness, these chickens are such babies! Anything I can do to encourage them to go OUTSIDE when it's raining out?! It's been just sprinkling for the last hour, but will they leave the coop now? of course not!

We do deep litter here too. I've found it so easy, though I do have to rake around the shavings under the roost, as they never seem to wander under there. Have to clean it out soon, but I'm procrastinating.

I am sure there are some other chicken lingo jokes to be had here but they are probably not in good taste... even if they ARE funny.

IRS man has some interesting days I am sure.

My chickens were out in the rain. Soaked little buggers. The molting ones, like those without tails, look somewhere between pathetic and hilarious. Looks like I have three SFavorelle pullets. Its still a little early to tell but they are dimorphic and so far it looks like all girls.

And for the record... posting while tired and punchy might not be the best idea in case anyone else was contemplating it. I am 85% percent better but baby has run high temps for three days. Off to the doc we go tomorrow bright and early. I am determined to be at Sunday's show. I missed all the others for car reasons so this time I just have to go

Wonder what the UPS driver thought a couple minutes ago when he delivered my horse's supplements. It is already dark here and I didn't have the porch light on. My muscovy drake calls the porch home at night. Nothing like dropping a package off and having a duck hiss at you. Especially one that doesn't tend to move out of the way.
