Maine

helloooooo!

I just posted over in the family section, but really wanted to get some ideas from my fellow mainahs!

As lost of you know, we are moving into our new house this weekend! (YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!:weee ) I am looking for some advice on introducing some herbs/scents etc that will help promote a calm positive energy in the house. I have read that lavender is good for that, but was wondering what else might help and the best way to use it in the house.  What do you guys think? Any tips/advice you guys can offer would be appreciated!

I don't know much about these things, but I would just bake an apple pie, or some cookies. That would make me want to hang around in the new house!
Good luck with your move! :)

I would say pump in the smell of chocolate. Now that would be really calming.

And for the best results have some bagpipe music playing softly in the background. You would never want to leave the house.

yes, that is correct. what you probably are seeing is a walnut comb which in pullets/hens is pretty flat.

Hey, I have a question about my silkie pullet (she laid her first egg last week

) She doesn't have any comb at all. Is that normal?

bagpipe music? I've be running from the house but i do like the idea of pie or baking something for sure.

Here's my crazy homemade nest box project. First, I will post a photo of the nest box in Liberia (taken from a blog) that inspired it:

and here is the box I built using cornstalks:

I filled it with shavings and a wooden egg. They were afraid of it at first, but then found it was quite fun to peck at the cornstalks! 24 hours later, there was not too much damage, just a couple of woodpecker holes. And someone must have been in there, because the wooden egg was kicked out. If they ever lay an egg in it, I will be thrilled!

That is really super cool!!

Wow you are talented! That was not what I was imagining at all... and in fact it is nicer than the original. Great job!

Thanks. I'm not sure it is better than the original, but it does serve as an emergency snacking station. :D

It is hard to tell in the photo, but it appears that in the original, you can lower the front woven part down (there's a little string), I assume for the purpose of protecting a broody and her chicks. It was too time-consuming to add that feature.

Thanks for the tips all! really looking to get some good energy going in the new place. Its going to be such a wonderful relief being there after years of being here and dealing with a very difficult neighbor. Like Hoppy said, just being away from that neighbor brings up the good energy levels!
