Maine

If anyone is looking for a LGD (or two) Northest Pyr Rescue has two Great Pyrenees for adoption that they need to place. The dogs were surrendered for financial reasons and were trained as guardian dogs. Neither has been a house pet. So if you were thinking about adding some live protection to the homestead than these dogs might be the perfect solution.

Whew! What a BUSY day!! But I am happy to say we have all of our stuff in our new house and we are LOVING it!!!!! Our chickens decided they were ready to come out of their coop today a little before noon and happily spent the day exploring their new digs. I was very relieved to see them all stick close to their coop and all hop right in happily this evening. We even got an egg today! I hope those that are going enjoy the show tomorrow. I will be here happily unpacking boxes:)

I'll be thinking of you when I get home from the show and I'm unpacking bird boxes too. I get my new call ducks tomorrow

keesmom is in MA and she has a house here in maine too. she also does salmon favorelles and there are a few entered in the show tomorrow.
I know about Keesmom. I am waiting to see who she says she has stock from because there are a few people. If I am going to breed I want to know.

SO, I went to the show. Fun! I loved meeting a few more BYC faces and talking to people I had met before at swaps. I did try to get information and there were sellers who didn't show but had some good stock and most people were really nice.

For the record, while Call Ducks are cute they are NOT for me. My kids tried to get those and a puppy and another turkey and then some D'Anvers and D'Uccles. I don't want to take them next time unless I am wearing a shirt that says, "No."

I'll let you borrow my " I have OCD (chicken obsessive disorder) shirt.

and did you see, you might have been gone by then, the salmon fav on the end by the silkies had a for sale sign on them.

Yes we are this year and yes weare starting now - just adding fresh shavings and lime. I almost think we should have started sooner than now as we clean out our large coop once a month. So it isn't that built up yet.

Great to meet you in person! I learned alot and can't wait to show in the spring! I managed to leave with no birds - I have some great contacts for later though. I did not get to stay for awards as I got a call from someone wanting to come and get pullets - so I had to scoot.

I got some pictures of the winners but didn't realize until I uploaded them that it was only the reserve winners, not the winners which were on the other side of champion row

I don't know the person's name (my partner bought and hatched the eggs this past summer), but I know she has a home here in Maine also and my partner found her on this message board so it must be Keesmom, like Hoppy says. There is also a guy I met at the Cumberland Fair who breeds Salmon Favs (not that I am recommending him, mind you) .I want to say he was from Windham maybe? Somewhere out that way. Said he has 600 chickens and has been breeding for 20 years.

It was a long day for me and Ryan at the show yesterday....but fun!

Great to talk to folks, everyone was really kind to Ryan and my flock was well represented.

My eight bantam cochins and one lonesome d'Uccle (lol) were happy to get back home. Mottled cockerel "Rufus" was still cheery and even evil tempered "Handsome" was "sedate"

At home, Ryan and I made pizza and the birds got on their roosts and SLEPT!!

I think I need to get myself a truck or minivan so I can start selling birds at these shows again - probably next Spring. My little blue car is TOO small. Even in the chicken business - size matters!!!
