I think I may have to look a little more at those. I like me some dual-purpose birds!

Do any of you guys know how to spin fiber? I've been toying with the idea of learning. I know how to weave, and I'd like to learn how to knit and/or crochet (could anyone here teach me either?). I know it's not exactly a chicken thing, but hey, it's worth a shot to ask!

There are several spinning clubs in Maine. Just google it. I raise Jersey Woolys for fiber and am collecting some for a spinning club to try.

ugg, my son wants to make cream puffs, and i already went shopping, meaning being the nice person that I am, I will get them so he can have cream puffs. Widget, i know the recipe your co-worker is talking about, looks really good.
and yeah, someone actually noticed that I lost alot of weight.

makes me feel good that people actually are noticing enough to say something. down from a size 12 to size 1.

I would have never guessed you were ever a 12 Hoppy. You looked great at the fall show but I have never seen you look otherwise - so congrats and what did you do exactly

When I was a girl I saw a woman at the common ground fair sitting at a spinning wheel with a rabbit in her lap, spinning yarn. It looked like she was taking the hair right off the rabbit. I thought that was so cool, and have wondered about it for years, is that how it's done or do you have to shave the rabbit?
My aunt and uncle raised sheep, and my aunt spun their wool and made sweaters and hats and things from the yarn. They were beautiful. I would love to try it myself some day! I have started learning to knit.
I wish there were fiber chickens, I'd be all over that LOL!

You actually pluck the hair off an angora rabbit, it does not get shaved.

I have had many losses from a fox this summer/ fall. My broken ankle has made it impossible to pen everything up.
Next year, the first time I lose a chicken I will be up in the hay loft watching out the opening, .22 rifle by my side, unless I have a dog already.
BTW I am looking for a rough collie or collie cross to add to my life. I would like a herding dog that would stay around when outside with me. I love Aussies but they like to exploring. I prefer adopting an adult dog, so if any of you knows a dog that would fit in a household with critters let me know.

Oh and by the way, if any of the canning savvy ladies are hosting another tutoring session I would love to go. My last two canning ventures were pathetic. One ended up wayyyyy too salty and one would not gel up

Hey does anyone in the Cumberland, N. Yarmouth, Falmouth, Windham or close to any of those have a recommendation for a good snow plow person? We were going to buy a blower this year but I think we might wait and will need someone to come plow the drive whenever it really decides to snow.

Check out http://www.crlne.org/ (Collie Rescue League of New England). They may be able to help you. Or try http://www.collieclubofmaine.com/ (Collie Club of Maine) Perhaps someone there will know of a dog that needs to be placed. I haven't been involved with collies in quite a while so I don't know anyone who has available dogs right now. But if you ever get to the Scarborough area and go to the Pet Life by Cabela's ask for Debbie. She is a friend of mine who was the breeder of the collie in my avatar. She now has Aussies but still has some connections in the Collie world. Will talk your ear off but she knows her dogs.

Not sure if you want to go this route- but rescue can be a great way to go- you can get anything from a puppy to a senior dog- I have a husky/lab mix that we got as an 8 week old pup from arkansas and he is great- stays around and is super with the chickens. Petfinder.com is a good place to start

For a short time we found ourselves with a smooth collie ( long story!)- he was not much of a nature lover though, he ended up moving back to california...this being said, he was a sweet guy!
